Kentucky’s Willie Cauley-Stein, a 7-foot, 244-pound freshman forward from Olathe, Kan., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 13.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and five blocks in wins over Vanderbilt and Missouri.
Cauley-Stein began the week by pouring in a career-high 20 points to couple with a team-high seven rebounds and three blocks. He made 8-of-10 field goals in the win over Vanderbilt.
In an overtime thriller against Missouri, Cauley-Stein altered the game defensively with a career-high seven blocked shots.
His 12 rebounds was a career-high tying, and it marked only the third game in his career with double-figure rebounding.

Very well deserved recognition of a player who has really stepped it up. Congratulations, Willie!
Willie is stepping up big time and getting rewarded for it – way to go, big boy!
I tell ya, that injury to WCS did something for this kid. He is playing, as he is possessed. He deserves this award, with no doubt.
Good choice, WCS played two excellent games this week.
It looks like they need to rename the award to Kentucky Freshman Of The Week.
I just can’t getting over imaging WCS going up in the corner of the end zone and pulling in the winning TD pass against Alabama to knock off the tide. Ring ring wake up son your dreaming, oh yea. Darn it. 7’0″ 240lb WR what a thought.
I’m with you on that, or just blocking FG/XP attempts. Hey, even inside the 5 yard alley-oops.
Willie is playing in another gear. He is just what the doctor ordered for UK basketball at this point in the season. I always liked his play from the start, but now he is bringing it to a whole new level. GO CATS, beat Miss. State!!!
Good job WCS
