Have never been much of a “fan” of Decourcy or of the Sporting News but much of what he says here has some validity.
It is the fans who make Rupp what it is, good or bad.
Last Saturday it was more than good. It was phenominal. This tradition is what makes Rupp, Rupp.
Some of that tradition must be retained
I love Rupp Arena..the atmosphere for big games is amazing. I’ve been to Thompson Boling since their renovation, and it looks good (apart from the horrible orange seats) but they only sell out for KY games. If Rupp could be renovated with some suites, without missing any home games and without losing seats, then I would be for it. I fear that losing seats and an increase in ticket prices would take away from the very atmosphere that makes Rupp special. The ERUPPtion zone is a great idea as are the fireworks during pregame introductions. Perhaps a similar section for non-students would offset the loss of seats elsewhere. I’d be willing to stand the whole game to be there. Certainly there are no easy answers. If only there were a way to have ‘sky seats’ directly over the floor somehow….just a thought.

GEne, I love Mike. Think he’s the best. And when he said that to me about the fans, I just thought why didn’t I think of that
