UK RB coach Chad Scott on Sanders, George and Clemons

To perhaps get your mind off Kentucky’s disappointing loss at Tennessee Saturday in basketball, take a look at what UK running backs coach Chad Scott has to say about some returning UK players.

Question: Have you had a chance to evaluate the returning running backs yet?
Scott: “I have. Last year the two guys they used for the most part were Raymond Sanders and Jonathan George. Those guys played really well. Even though it is a spread offense, the run game is downhill. Sanders has the ability where we can use him as a running back and slot receiver and find ways to get him the ball in space. George, we will play more with him in the pistol because he is more of a downhill runner and will be very effective in short yardage and goal-line situations. So those two kids coming back with experience they have in the SEC is huge for us.”

Question: What about Josh Clemons, who redshirted last year because of his knee, and Dyshawn Mobley, who played sparingly as a true freshman?
Scott: “Mobley not play as much, so it is kind of hard to give him a fair assessment. We have to wait and see in spring ball and see how he does. With (Justin) Taylor being redshirted, we will have to wait and see what he does. Clemons, his freshman year he showed a lot of promise and what he can do. We are confident he has that ability. It’s just whether or not his injury lets him come back and do it again.”

We have some of the most underrated backs in the league. George is a 4.4 guy and so is whitlow. We will be explosive on offense

I am excited to see the offensive numbers put up on the scoreboard next year. Go Cats

There is WAY more talent here than we realize. These kids are gonna get a chance to prove it this year. GO CATS!!!

I am glad to see that George will get his reps in the Pistol. He’s been one of my favorites since he’s been here.

Hank, Think this new staff really likes George

Been saying it, we have some under rated backs as well. Raymond Sanders was finally healthy last year and he looked good out there. Did everything right. Ran hard,, passed blocked well, catches well out of the backfield. George very good as well. Man he ran some tough yards last year and he ain’t slow.

Nobody would listen though when I said how much we would miss Lock Speed. Locke spoiled us with that ability to get to the edge hit the seem, and be down field before the defense realized it. We don’t have that type of RB anymore, but we do have good solid fast runners.

I think Mobley will be more of a down hill runner, but am interested to see what kind of running style will Taylr will bring now that he RS and rehabbed properly. We got a taste of Clemons as a freshman, will he bring it again after a long rehab or be gunshy on the field. Be interesting to watch spring practices!

Love the football news. We have some good backs, and we are getting a good one, I believe, in Jo Jo Kemp

I also think we have a very good stable of backs, probably more pretty good backs than at any time I can remember. This is getting off the subject but I also believe we have maybe 4 really good receivers, I am eager for spring practice to start so the staff can get a good look at them and then see what they have to say. I know this sounds funny but it almost seems like I have swiched over to support another team since Stoops got on board. I love it.

Jim, it is like your favorite restaurant that you have gone to for years, but in the last few years, it has become a little rundown and seedy. Then the sign appears out front, “Under New Management”, and you can’t wait for the doors to open so you can see what changes have taken place.

Perfect John. Thats exactly what it’s like. Thanks

  9. Love SEC

I love this info. – These guys get it done.
Notice that he added Taylor’s name when the question was about Mobley & Clemmons.
Also the comment “find ways to get him the ball in space”. We will hear that a lot!

I think he may be surprised that Mobley and Taylor are going to be the backs he will be most impressed with!

Chad is anxious to see all of them play this spring. No way for him to know much about Taylor at this stage
