UK Men’s Basketball to Host Telethon Wednesday for Superstorm Sandy Victims

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Humbled by the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, in conjunction with WKYT, will host a telethon Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 7-8 p.m. ET. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross to benefit the victims of the catastrophic storm.

The telethon will air throughout the state on UK/IMG Sports Network affiliates, as members of the UK men’s basketball team will take phone calls and donations.  More details and telethon phone numbers will be released later.

During non-telethon hours, people can call the Red Cross at 859.253.1331 or 800.RED.CROSS. Donations will also be accepted at www.redcross.org.

The special event will also stream live at WKYT.com.

For more information from the Red Cross, contact Winn Stephens at winn.stephens@redcross.org.

I was hoping something like this would happen. It thrills me to know how much this one program can do and how they and Coach Cal are moved to help. It just is not national or international happenings, but how they touch the lives of so many who are struggling. Love being a member of the BBN! I’ll be watching if I can find it on my TV>.

Kudos to UK and Cal for doing this. Cal constantly amazes me and impresses me with his humanity and charity, even though I should be used to it by now. His attitude that he is cheating the position if he doesn’t take a leadership roles in things like this is what set him apart, IMO.

This is a great act of kindness by Cal and BBN.
It also looks good when we are going to play in that area this week.
I know that this will be mentioned during the broadcast.
