Vaught’s note: Tennessee’s Tyler Bray is being counted on to help the Vols rebound from last year’s disastrous season. However, he’s shown that his off-field decision-making certain is lacking and even if he buys his way out of legal problems, it will be interesting to see what, if any, action Tennessee takes against him based on information in this Associated Press story.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray is mentioned in police incident reports about two car vandalisms at a Knoxville apartment complex.

Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said Wednesday afternoon that no charges will be filed on the initial incident at the Landing Riverfront Apartments after Bray offered to pay Bradi Hudson, the first victim, for damages to her car.

“Bray reached out to her and apologized and is going to take care of the damage to the vehicle,” DeBusk said. “Because of that, she no longer wished to pursue charges.”

Hudson was scheduled to meet with a detective Wednesday, according to DeBusk, but before then she informed Knoxville police of her conversation with Bray. DeBusk said the second vandalism incident is still under investigation.

According to the first incident report filed Sunday, when Hudson went to her car Saturday morning she noticed it had dents on the roof and a cracked windshield. A note on the car window had a name and phone number and read “I know what happened to your car.” After calling the number, she was told “there had been males drinking and throwing beer bottles and golf balls at her vehicle” the previous night, the report states.

In the other incident, Kirstie Allen discovered her front windshield had been “completely smashed” on Monday, the second incident reports states. She told police she returned to her apartment around 1:10 p.m. and ate lunch. Approximately 30 minutes later, she went outside and noticed the damage to her vehicle.

Allen told police that Bray and his roommate, Michael Grandinetti, had thrown beer bottles off a balcony and onto vehicles in the parking lot. The report quotes her as saying an office manager for the complex told her Bray and Grandinetti had been “served with an eviction notice just prior to her arriving home.”

This is not the first time that a victim of crime withdraws their criminal complaint after they learn that the perpetrators are UT scholarship athletes.

The corruption and coverups at Penn State have become legendary, but UT will never be surpassed in the boldness of their defiance of all things that are decent

I hate to see talented guys do incredibly dumb things that are self-destructive. I am glad no one was physically harmed. It will make it very difficult for him to lead his team. If he isn’t disciplined then you might as well throw discipline for the rest of the team out the window. You may be right professor, but I still find it sad in many ways. It doesn’t sound like it was an isolated incident since he was in the process of being evicted.

Bill, I agree with you…talented athletes doing self-destructive and dumb things is something that I hate as well no matter for whom they play ball. I believe that Coach Dooley was counting on Bray being a leader for his team, but Bray does not appear to be leading the team the way the coaching staff had invisioned. For those of us who are reduced to cheering from the sideline instead of the athletic ability to participate at that level, it is very disturbing that their talent appears to be wasted on those who do not appreciate it. That type of opportunity only comes around at certain times of life and to waste it is a shame. Tonight is the Nashville chapter of the UT Alumni All Sports Picnic at Lipscomb University here (Nashville) and normally two or three of the football leaders attend with the head Coach and speak to the crowd. It will be interesting to see if Bray has to sit this one out…

Maybe Bray thought the beer bottle was a football?

  • TheProfessor says:

I am addressing the UT culture, not this specific Bray incident.

I understand & agree with you 100%. Their problems are certainly deeper than this incident. I was just trying to be sarcastic. – Agree with the other posts as well.

i guess you have to be good at throwing something, maybe he was just showing off his wing

Lot of college kids do dumb things. Had a few former UK Players laughing today as they thought about what Bray did and shared a few of their stories. But this is a blow for the Vols. Can’t have a QB screwing up like this in the offseason. Much like what Curtis Pulley did at UK in some ways

Is their any Orange pride left at all? Not to throw stones but geez , this has been some rough years for ole rocky top. Pat Summit was all they had left of any class and now she obviously had to step down. (with all do repect of course) . Oh well.

    • Theresa Crow says:

Living here in middle TN, I can tell you that the fan base has Orange pride even though it may be a bit tarnished from all of the disappointments. It is very much like we were in the few years before Coach Cal rescued our basketball program. Most folks here blame the downfall on Kiffin–guess he is their Billy Gillispie!
