Rod Strickland, who was demoted from assistant coach to an administrative role at Kentucky after his arrest on DUI charges in 2010, was arrested again early Thursday in downtown Lexington and charged with driving on a DUI suspended license, not having registered license plates and failing to signal.
University of Kentucky associate athletics director DeWayne Peevy issued this statement that helps put the arrest in a bit more context:
“Rod Strickland was pulled over this morning in Lexington on a routine traffic stop on the way to the office. According to police reports, he was pulled over for failure to signal and for driving with a suspended license. According to Strickland, his vehicle was properly registered and he produced his driver’s license at the scene. We are currently gathering information on whether his license was suspended due to a clerical error which led to his arrest.”
Makes one wonder now why Strickland was even arrested and if being a UK basketball staff member may have worked against him?
It’s been over a year since Strickland’s DUI, so it makes sense his license would again be validated. It also seems logical that if he says his vehicle is properly registered — and it is hard to imagine a UK basketball staff member without a properly registered vehicle — that it was.
Based on information released by Peevy, there’s no reason to believe Strickland did anything more than possibly failing to make a proper signal — something that most of us probably do daily.
