Eddie Gran likes where TE Justin Rigg is

Sophomore C.J. Conrad has received most of the preseason attention at tight end, but the Kentucky coaches also like what Nebraska transfer Greg Hart and true freshman Justin Rigg are doing.

“Justin did some good things again,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said after Saturday’s scrimmage. “He caught a few balls and he looks very comfortable out there. He’s a very natural guy.

“Greg has played well in camp really. He gives us a good maturity out there and has some experience and has done some very good things.”

Gran believes UK will be “OK” at tight end

Losing tight end Daryl Long just two days into preseason practice was an unexpected blow for Kentucky’s offense. However, offensive coordinator Eddie Gran made it clear Tuesday that he still liked what the Cats had at tight end.

“(Freshman) Justin Riggs is pushing Greg Hart and C.J. (Conrad) to get on the field. It’s awesome. When you do that, you’ve got a chance,” Gran said.

He says Rigg has more than just great size.

“Soft hands, listens, loves the game, will stick (his) face in there. All those things I love,” Gran said.

Offensive lineman Ramsey Meyers returned to practice Tuesday after being held out of Saturday’s scrimmage. He started every game last season at guard.

“He was back out there today part go. He got a head injury, so he’s out with that right now,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Tuesday.

Running back Mike Horton was also “out there” for practice after suffering a minor injury late in Saturday’s scrimmage when he was hit on his shin.

Tight end Greg Hart, a transfer from Nebraska, was hurt catching a pass and is not back at practice.
