    in 3 months, 10 days, 21 hours, 37 minutes

The annual Kentucky Football Blue/White Spring Game, set for April 13 at 7 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium will be a ticketed event this year with reserved seating.  A special availability for season ticket holders for the free tickets will begin Thursday, Feb. 28, at 9 a.m.  Current season ticket holders will receive an e-mail this week detailing how they may obtain up to eight reserved seats:

  • Online at TicketMaster.com
  • By calling TicketMaster at 800-745-3000
  • In person at TicketMaster outlets in Kentucky
  • NOTE: Tickets are free but there is a small service charge per ticket

UK students may obtain their free tickets beginning Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Joe Craft Center ticket office.  Students may pick up two tickets per ID. Remaining tickets will be available to the general public through the same TicketMaster channels beginning Monday, March 11 at 9 a.m.

Vaught’s note: I asked UK if fans would still be able to get tickets at the stadium the day of the game. Here’s the reply: “Fans will still be able to get free tickets on game day at the stadium.”

This looks like it is going to be a hot ticket this spring. I know that I am going to attend a Spring game for the first time ever.

    • UKFAN197TONE says:

TBJ, maybe you can’t start the midnight madness for football and camp out a few nights prior. ;)

    • larryvaught says:

Glad you are coming True Blue. And MIke, understand your frustration. Obviously, going to be a lot of mixed emotions about this from fans

      • Jeffro says:

Hey Larry, can you or one of your many friends not come up with an extra ticket to help Mike overcome his frustration? I’m positive one of us here could chip-in the processing fee for Mike, if that’s truly the problem.

What do you say—can we help a frustrated fan like Mike out so that he can get one of the reserved seats for the Spring Game?

  • RJ says:

I have a prior committment that I cannot get out of darn it. I will give my tickets to my brother in law who will really appreciate them.

  • Pacman says:

This is an extremely bad idea from the Athletic Dept. I know they think excitement is high for football. If so why place barriers in the way of the fan to come to the Spring Game. People who are on the fence about buying season tickets (or any tickets) and want to see the product first in the Blue White game might say “forget it. We all know the game will not sell out so why make it so difficult. I have attended the Spring Game for years (along with about 1000 other fans) and now they want to change the process so that people like me that have supported them for years have more hoops to jump through to see a practice. Maybe they should win a few games (like the BBall team) before they start pulling this kind of crap for scrimmages. IMO Good luck on this move

  • Jeffro says:

I personally think it’s a great idea and appreciate them letting me get 8 reserved seats. Let’s treat it like a big game—like those SEC schools that we desire to beat. We want championships? Then it’s gonna take change.

I will travel 1,000 miles each way to make the “Spring Game”. I trust that a considerable portion of the BBN will feel the same, and not hold onto the old ideas of the past.

Time to make a statement, BBN…..who’s in?

    • Here's Hope says:

Couldn’t agree more Jeffco. Pacman I hope this is just a start. Since tickets are available at the game I see no big deal in this except to draw more attention to it so Jeffro I’m in!

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if this DID turn into a crazy fun weekend in the future and then you’d be glad you had reserved tickets. Looks like that’s what UK is wanting in doing this anyway.

And yes we are setting up our tailgate in the Green Lot just like it was a night home game! (only difference is we are usually in the Blue Lot) See you there at NOON to have a great afternoon in the parking lot with BBN football fans! We may even walk over to the baseball game for a little while to root them on!

      Go Cats!

  • MikeF says:

Why did they go and mess up a perfect arrangement? I would think we want people to come to the Spring game, now we will cast back into priviledged season ticket holders who have the best seats…this is the one time during the year I can sit where I want….with people able to get 8 reserved tickets, they will get them and use 3 or 4. I have not seen more than 6 or 7 thousand fans at the Spring game…In my old age, this is a downright stupid idea….don’t you wish I had an opinion? Let it go as it has been and let’s see how it goes, if there are issues – adjust it next year.

  • Jeffro says:

Hi Mike, okay, let’s assume all the season ticket holders who want to go get 8 reserved seats, but only use 3 or 4. Do you mean to tell me that you do not know anyone who is a season ticket holder?

  • Jim says:

I don’t see any negatives. Excitement is at an all time high. Season ticket holders should have first dibs on seats. I don’t see 70K showing up for the blue white game, so if you show up you will be able to get in. All the tickets will do is let you pick where you sit. The 50 yard line at the top of the lower stands or the bottom of the upper deck is the ideal place to sit. But, anywhere in the stadium, sitting around fellow UK fans is a good place to be. Anybody that doesn’t pony up for season tickets should not complain that season ticket holders get first dibs. After all, we all know ticket prices will go up every year. Those who have not bought season tickets could scale back on HBO and Showtime and spend there money on live entertainment, instead.

  • rjr says:

They should have waited a year on this before implementing tickets. If attendance warranted it, they could have implemented it later. And 8 tickets to season holders is silly high. If joe fan was interested in going and gets online to only find upper level seats available on ticketmaster, do you blame him for passing? While thousands of seats remain unused in the lower arena by season ticket holders who took their allotment but didn’t use them?

Larry, I am still perplexed by your update. Obviously I think we all assumed tickets would be availabe at the ticket office located next to the stadium. But I assume fans won’t be able to simply walk up to the gate and get in with a handed ticket (and without paying a service fee).

This is too bad and unnecessary. It simply amazes me how the basketball program almost never makes a PR mistake, but the football program just falls all over itself time and time again. I don’t understand it.

    • Jeffro says:

RJR, free tickets will be available on the day of the Game without the service fee associated with ordering in advance through Ticketmaster.

Also, do you not have a friend, family member, neighbor, co-worker, church member, etc, that is a season ticket holder?

Piece of cake, guys. Let’s not rush to make up obstacles that aren’t really there. Okay, so some always react negatively to change….I get that, but it is gonna take real change if we want to have a big time football program.

I for one am on-board. Let’s make a statement by having a huge turnout…one that will make the rest of the SEC take notice, instead of always making our Spring Game turnout as the laughing stock and then using it against us in recruiting

  • Pacman says:

RJR, I am with you on this idea. Football always seems to shoot itself in the foot… while trying to do something good.

  • Ira says:

It generates excitement amongst season ticket holders. It makes them feel a little more special than the casual fan.

It also lets them gauge interest on how many calls in and reserves tickets. Gives them a rough tally what they can expect from the ticket holders.

It also being cynical here may let them decide how just much they are gonna spend on the spring game.

People have been talking for years no one ever shows up for the spring game, well they have to figure something out to draw us in. This is one way to do that.

I like it. Let them generate excitement with this. I’m from SE KY and I’m coming with my family of four, will be asking another family if they want to come with us. Just talked to a teacher where my son goes to school at, used to have season tickets, he is back to wanting to buy season tickets again because all the little things Coach Stoops is doing right. Things like this., just to name one.

  • Terry Blue says:

Not really sure why anyone would be upset. You can still get in the game like always, just the people who choose to get the tickets early will have a better choice of seats. If I go and don’t have a ticket, then they tell me they’re filled up in Commonwealth, it will mean that there’s 70.000+ in there and I’ll smile all the way back to Louisville happily listening to Tom Leach on the radio

    • Love SEC F-Ball says:

I don’t see this as a big deal. I tend to agree with Ira, Terry Blue, Jeffro & Jim.
It will be more organized – less potential for a seating disagreement.
You should not have 25 people trying to sit in a row for 15.
I am not sure how many will show up but it should be a lot more than recent years – so a larger crowd will require more organization.

Stoops Troops & Browns Bombers deserve our support. They have done a phenomenal job so far and we need to step it up. Show up and encourage others to attend! Like Ira said, bring someone else. And let them know that you are there when you arrive. (Stand up & cheer!) (Are we having fun yet – Well I am!)

  • Jim says:

A report is out that 27K tickets have been distributed. UK should have a record crowd in attendence for the spring game. Go Cats! Go Stoops and staff!

    • larryvaught says:

I look for over 40,000 tickets to eventually be distributed and can’t imagine not having at least 30,000 at game
