An emotional Ryan Timmons broke down in tears several times as he thanked coaches, friends and teammates before announcing that he would play his college football at the University of Kentucky.
The three-star receiver picked UK over Ohio State, Illinois and Florida. He is expected to be an immediate contributor for the Cats in Neal Brown’s new offense.
“One of the most important things is he is not only a great athlete, but he is an awesome kid,” Franklin coach Chris Tracy said. “For all of you out there, it is a testament to his hard work. He is a 3.0 plus student. He works at it and works at it.”
Franklin principal Buddy Sampson said it didn’t take him long when he took the job this year to learn that Timmons was the most “popular man in school.”
“We stand behind him and support him,” Sampson said. “If you have not had the chance to meet Ryan, it’s unfortunate. He is probably one of the most polite kids in the school. He has been raised by a great mother, fabulous sisters and awesome grandmother. We areĀ proud of his achievement as young man of character and integrity.”

Great news Larry! now reel in Jason Hatcher. Seems these kids are believing in this coaching staff being able to change the status we have held in the SEC. Glad to see they are jumping on board to help make it come true. Thanks love hearing about football wins and this is a win beating out Florida and Ohio State. Go Big Blue!!!
I have already posted on this but I say again, welcome Ryan. Glad you are a “WILDCAT!” Can’t wait to see you play.
I am getting greedy. I want Jason Hatcher and Tevin Lawson. Stoops has me spoiled already. We are up to 30th on Rivals and climbing. Great job, Stoops & Co. I can’t wait for the season to start.
Thank You Ryan Timmons! What a Great Day for UK!
THIS IS A GREAT START FOR COACH STOOPS AND HIS STAFF–YOU CAN’T COACH EM IF YOU DON’T GET EM—COACH STOOPS AND HIS STAFF HAVE DONE A REMARKABLE JOB IN A VERY SHORT TIME WITH THE ODDS AGAINST THEM–
IT CERTAINLY LOOKS LIKE HELP IS ON THE WAY–
HONDO2
@ truebluejohn- Thanks for putting the most current ranking on here. Its about time we get in the mix.! Yes Sir.
Grant, the odds on going higher in the rankings look better and better. Jason Hatcher just said that USC was no longer in the picture. That looks good for the Cats.
I don’t want to get to optimistic, but if Jason Hatcher commits to UK we are a top 25 class. Jason, Kentucky needs you. Your class could start something really big for UK football. Can’t wait to see him play. BBN would love him to be a WILDCAT. SEC Football.
Larry V. any news on James Hearns of late?
huge academic issues with Hearns. Don’t see him at UK
For some reason or another, we are now up to 29th on Rivals, and that is without Jason Hatcher. Scott Van Pelt on ESPN is reporting that Hatcher is going to sign with the Cats.
Sitting here in Nashville on my lunch hour watching the press conference live (via Kentucky Sports Radio feed), it was great to hear the comments by the principal and the coach about what a great kid Ryan is and the family support that he has. When Ryan got choked up with emotion and the tears began, it really got to me. Welcome to the BBN, Ryan, you have a place with us for life! Oh, and by the way, I always claps my hands and cheer while eating lunch at my desk (sarcasm)…but only a UK alum who sits near me had any idea what I was cheering about today!
Great comments and now, no one will bother you while you’re eating. THEY may be afraid too.
Welcome to U.K. Ryan – We are glad to have you!
Good luck with your Football & academic career!
Just keeps getting better and better. Welcome aboard!
Rivals now has us at 29th without Jason Hatcher. Scott Van Pelt of ESPN is reporting Hatcher to the Cats.
