Ohio four-star receiver picks Alabama over Kentucky

By LARRY VAUGHT

Even Mark Stoops can’t win every recruiting battle.

Cincinnati receiver Derek Kief  picked defending national champion Alabama over Kentucky and Ohio State Sunday. The 6-5, 200-pound Kief is a four-star prospect who would have given UK offensive coordinator Neal Brown the big receiver he wants. Kief runs a 4.4 second 40-yard dash and that size and speed is why so many big-time programs wanted him.

Several other Ohio prep standouts who had committed to Kentucky, along with quarterback Drew Barker of Conner, had lobbied for Kief to join them at Kentucky and he praised UK fans on Twitter after he made his decision.

Hey, I tried by sending him messages via Twitter. Wish him the best of luck with his choice, wish he had picked us but win some lose one.

Got to pull for two others now, 4 star Blake Bone 6’5″ and 4.7 40 speed and 4 star Braxton Berrios 5’9″ 4.5 40 speed. Go Cats!!!!! You guys need to twit these players and show them the love. Go Cats!

Well it’s hard to turn down Bama I understand. I was hoping the magic the kids were building and putting together would draw him him here. But alas not to be.

But like another poster above said being on Blake Bone.

Contacting any player during the recruiting process is a violation of Ncaa rules . Isnt this correct Larry ? I mean by a fan

Can contact/post on Facebook, Twitter with no problem — at least for now. But not sure NCAA can ever stop that

To bad. UK will just have to get another one with similar size and speed. Like David said, you can’t get em all.

Alabama is a tough school to turn down. We have Tyre Brady who is a 6″3 receiver who committed, so all is not lost. Time to focus on Blake Bone, Artavious Scott and Braxton Berrios.

Hate to tell u andy but Tyre is not with us anymore!

Andy your right on Artavis Scott, he would be a better catch than even Derek Kief. He is rated the 11th rated WR by Rivals. I still like this Berrios young man, he nt only has the skills but has the smarts carrying a 4.3 GPA.

Thing about it…..we are “in” the game with Alabama and Ohio State. That is remarkable in itself and shows where the Coaching staff has elevated our program. Good Luck to Mr. Kief and we wish him well. His choice was no different than the 5-star Basketball recruits that come to UK and want to play with a great Coach.

Aaron you may be right but everything I have read says Brady is still a UK Wildcat. At least for now.

Last time I looked, Tyre Brady was not listed by Rivals as a commit, but what does that mean? I have even heard that Derek Kief was still not out of the picture and might flip this summer. The Air Raid offense will make any WR look great if he has any hands at all. Heck, I am just fawning over the verbals we currently have – coaches are not afraid to go head to head with the best teams and they are winning a lot.
