Kentucky’s new lodge for basketball players opened this summer and is located even closer the basketball practice facility than the old one was
“They are all very excited about that, especially the returning guys. They think the new lodge is unbelievable,” UK associate athletics director of basketball operations Chris Woolard said. “Having a lodge allows us to become a family so much quicker than if players were living all over the place. The new lodge is probably 50 steps from the practice facility. Players wake up, go to class and then can walk to the practice facility. They can get in 24 hours a day. Our managers live in the lodge, so they can grab one of them to go rebound for them or whatever.
“Our training and weight room is right there and so is the academic support center. It’s the best setup you could ask for. In recruiting, you can tell players there is no better setup in the country. We are also going to have the best locker room at Rupp Arena of any college or pro team next season.”

The new Lodge is a great addition! Larry, what are they going to do with the old lodge? Let the women’s team use it! Just currious! Thanks!
Is the old lodge maybe 75 steps from the practice facility? Looks close enough to measure! Thanks!
Ben, I don’t know plans for old lodge. Will ask and see if I can find out
Did they put in the underground tunnel from the new lodge to the practice facility? I heard alot of chatter that they were going to do that so the players could avoid autograph hounds.
No tunnel that I know of
larry you think you can post some pics of the lodge. i have not been down in quite a while and have not even seen the new practice facility yet. jim master took me and my brother and dad through the old one back in the early 80′s in the summer. geez what a thrill.
will see what we can do Grant
Grant learned that the previous Wildcat Lodge is now in the hands of general student housing for assignment. UK will make pictures available of new lodge when it is fully furnished. Still a few things to go
At one point ‘normal’ students were residing in Wildcat Lodge because of some rule or something about special housing for athletes. Are there going to be a number of ordinary students residing in the new lodge?
linda , there were other students living in the lodge, i believe tutors.
I wonder how I can become a tutor? LOL
You would Linda.
Hey I know all about tunnels on campus when the winter wind starts blowing especially when you’re trying to get somewhere with wet hair or whatever. A tunnel to the new facility would sure make sense to me regardless of the autograph hounds. I know where my son went to school (Wright St.) they had tunnels all over the campus just so the students could stay warm. But that campus looks like it was built about 20 minutes ago and a lot of it was. My son had a room in a dorm that wasn’t even finished a week before he moved in. That place is modern city. But there’s a lot to be said for the traditions of the UK campus. I loved that place from way back especially the courtyards, the gardens and the fountains around the student center and toward Rose St. from there. Really that entire end of the campus is very nice IMO. Plus the Ave. Of Champions wasn’t a bad place either. I actually liked it when the old football field was down there. I guess my age is showing again.
I think I would make a good tutor! I could show those boys what it is like to be Blue to the Bone and Livin’ Blue and Lovin’ It. I could coach them in tradition and why some games are so important. I’d make a good tutor…show them why they should not go to the Two Keys! I think my initials might still be under one of those tables! LOL I would even encourage them to change the b-ball trunks to those cute little ones they use to wear many years ago. I’d be good! LOL

I was sure hoping they would try to update the Job B. and hand it over to the ladies. I think that would have been a perfect hand off considering the rise of the ladies program.
good idea juan!
Has anything been written about the UK basketball team that won the gold medal in the 1948 Olympics?
That is one ugly building. Private study room, good idea. Suite? Shared room? Who gets a suite?
