Mark Stoops on Cody Quinn, Josh Forrest, Kendall Randolph, J.D. Harmon, Blake McClain

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops talked specifically about several players after Monday’s open practice. Here’s what he had to say:

Freshman defensive back Kendall Randolph: “He’s one of those guys that you can tell right away that he comes from a great program in north Florida. And he’s been well coached, and he’s physical and he has good instincts. So you could tell probably just by being there two days that he fits in out there. He’s not a finished product, like many of our guys, but I anticipate he’ll get some playing time. I like what he’s doing.”

Linebacker Josh Forrest: “I really like the way Josh has been playing. I really do. He really is good in pass coverage. He really has good range. He’s tall and rangy and can run really well. He really has a good feel for the game. He needs to be more physical at times. For the most part, he’s been right on with all of his assignments and things like that. So he’s grown and he’s going to be a really good player.”

Cornerback Cody Quinn: “He’s doing OK. We’re working on some things with Cody. He likes to get up there real tight and work on some different techniques and it was the first day he struggled with it a little bit, but he’ll be fine. He’ll get better. The one thing about Cody is he’ll really, he’s aggressive. He’s an aggressive player. He’s a little on the short side, but he plays very feisty and he’s aggressive.”

Cornerback J.D. Harmon: “J.D. had a nice day. It looked like to me he got his hands on the football several times. You could see he brings us a little bit of size that we need at that position.”

Freshman receiver Garrett Johnson: “Saturday, you may have saw him, you guys were out there. He just caught a ball, just hurt his finger. He should be back, I’d hope in a couple days here.”

Defensive back Blake McClain: “Blake has been just like always, very consistent and very versatile. We’re moving him around. He gives us the option some to play him at safety if Kendall can take the nickel position. We’ll just keep looking at options to get the best 11 on the field.”

Good reports on these young men. He also said the defense in ahead of the offense right now.
