AMES, Iowa (AP) – Keyla Snowden hit a jumper and two free throws in the final 18 seconds, and second-seeded Kentucky held off Green Bay 65-62 Monday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Samarie Walker had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Snowden added 13 points for the Wildcats (27-6), who will face Gonzaga in the regional semifinals in Kingston, R.I.

Kentucky opened the game with a 21-6 run, then rallied after Green Bay erased a 17-point deficit and took a 62-61 lead with 1:57 left. Snowden responded with a short jumper that rolled in after sitting on the rim, and Adrian Ritchie air-balled a 3-pointer with a second left.

Julie Wojta and Sarah Eichler each scored 16 points for Green Bay (31-2), which forced 34 turnovers.

Rallied? Not hardly. While Mr. Meredith may not have chosen the misleading headline for his article, I surely want to make it clear that Green Bay (who had only lost one game all season and was second in the nation in turnover margin while our Cats led the nation) had, instead, been the ones to “rally” back from a seventeen-point deficit, causing Kentucky to have to fight late for the win.

The national television coverage began when Green Bay had cut the lead to one point with a little less than five minutes remaining in the game. I had been following the score through the first half and had assumed we were going to have a big win. Obviously, it’s very dangerous to assume. Anyway, Green Bay tied the score with about three minutes remaining and had its ONE and ONLY lead in the game with a made free throw with a little over two minutes left.

Then, with Kentucky behind by that one point, Keyla Snowden took over the game at crunch time. She not only made the shot that would end up being a game-winner, but also essentially sealed the victory with two free throws — and even grabbed the rebound from Green Bay’s missed potentially game-tying three at the end (and Samari Walker was HUGE with her double-double, which resulted in her being named the Player of the Game). The Cats then celebrated with their coach. Coach Mitchell jumped up and down with them in jubilation. How sweet that was to see their happiness! Too, it was particularly sweet as the win put Kentucky women’s basketball in the Sweet Sixteen for only its THIRD time ever. It’s CONGRATS — and GOOD LUCK to our women’s team against Gonzaga!!!

i saw some of the game, most of the second half.Green Bay did make a terriffic run and this game was up for grabs with less than 5 minutes to go. Green bay plays very well AS A TEAM ! UK does too. it was a very good womens basketball game ! I think UK can get to the regional final then they would get UCONN, if that is the case UK will have to play an almost PERFECT game to beat the huskies. They are beatable !!!! i just hope UK can do it !
