Kentucky has announced its 2012-13 men’s basketball non-conference schedule. The schedule features a season-opening game against Maryland on Nov. 9, opening the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., as a part of the Barclays Center Classic, followed by a Nov. 13 matchup against Duke in the Georgia Dome in the Champions Classic.
The Wildcats open the home portion of their schedule on Nov. 16 with three straight home games against Lafayette College (Pa.), Morehead State (Nov. 21) and Long Island University (Nov. 23). All three games are a part of the Barclays Center Classic.
Kentucky returns to South Bend, Ind., for the first time since the 2008-09 season on Nov. 29 to take on Notre Dame in the SEC/Big East Challenge. The Wildcats will return home for five straight games beginning with the Baylor Bears on Dec. 1, followed by home games against Samford (Dec. 4), Portland (Dec. 8), Lipscomb (Dec. 15) and Marshall (Dec. 22).
The annual UK-UL game will close out the 2012 calendar on Dec. 29 in Louisville. The Wildcats will ring in the New Year on Jan. 2 hosting Eastern Michigan in UK’s final non-conference tune-up before Southeastern Conference play begins Jan. 8-10.
Prior to regular-season action, Kentucky hosts a pair of exhibition games. The first will be Nov. 1 against Northwood, while the second exhibition will take place Nov.5, when Kentucky hosts in-town rival Transylvania for the second consecutive year.
Kentucky begins formal preparations for the season with Big Blue Madness on Friday, Oct. 12, at Rupp Arena, followed by the Blue-White Scrimmage on Oct. 24.

Looks like Lexington West doesn’t have anything to be happy about. BOO!
I believe it is a solid non-conference schedule. I doubt that many top 10 programs will include the likes of Maryland and Duke on neutral courts, Notre Dame and Louisville on the road, and Baylor as 5 of the 13 non-conference games. Marshall is no slouch, and last season finished stronger than 7 of the 12 SEC teams. The other 7 non-conference games, in my opinion, are cupcakes. Last season’s non-conference schedule included 8 to 10 legitimate “cupcakes”
Yes, IU, Kansas, and UNC are not there, but Duke, @Notre Dame, Maryland, Baylor, and Missouri are there.
The SEC schedule is stronger with the addition of TAMU and Missouri.
Overall, I believe this schedule is a little stronger, top to bottom, than last year’s.
Linda is disappointed that the annual freedom hall game is missing, but this is all about venue and exposure, and the Louisville game has not been providing the fan support with attendance for several years. The Rupp faithful are feeling disappointed that they only get Baylor, but they get 9 SEC games this year, and one of those will be either Missouri or TAMU.
Amen Professor Amen
The games at Rupp has been a lack luster for years besides the n.carolina series we had.I think we need more markee games at home like back when Rick pitino had during his tenure.
Like Bryan, I would like to see some bigger games in Rupp but Prof. is right – The Non-Conf. schedule is “solid”.
And the SEC is stronger with A & M & Mizzou added. I think that the SEC has been stronger than most believe over the last few years. Of course U.K. dominated but the rest of the other SEC teams sent several players to the NBA!
