Here’s what Kentucky coach Joker Phillips had to say today when asked if he had lost confidence in kicker Craig McIntosh:

“It’s not us having confidence in him.  Again, we’ve been right on him.  It seems like the teams that we’ve had a chance to kick the ball, it’s been around 42‑plus.  It hasn’t been anything under 40 that we’ve had an opportunity to kick.  So it’s been really tough kicks for him.  We haven’t lost confidence in him, and just me talking to him on Saturday after the game, he hasn’t lost confidence.  He’s rearing and willing to go out there and kick.

“And again, I told him this year he’s going to have to go in and kick field goals to help us win.  I really believe that.  So we have a lot of belief in him and he has a lot of belief in himself.

“There’s the game of those little inches.  You know, the 50‑something‑yarder the other day was really close.  All the other ones have been really close also because they can get you points.”

Thanks for this piece on Craig McIntosh, Larry. Too, I tell you when I myself am ESPECIALLY confident in McIntosh. That’s when he goes out for a really long field goal right before halftime. He’s connected on at least three of those — one when we had been down in Oxford a couple of years ago and a couple this year! Further, indeed, McIntosh has been SO close on the ones he has missed (and Craig himself, along with others, still believe the one at Louisville had actually been good).

Anyway, I still have confidence in this young man — and, as you well know, I’m sure, what a fine young man Craig McIntosh is, one that his head coach could have certainly been a team captain. He seems very poised, besides very much a gentleman. Finally, here’s surely wishing those close ones go his way the rest of the season! GO CATS!!!

Rarely do I get an opportunity to attend games these days, but when I do, I like to arrive early enough to watch the kickers prepare when they come out early to warm up. This year, I had that opportunity, and Craig McIntosh has no reason to lack confidence. He will miss some for sure, but he range with accuracy is outstanding, and he is also going to make his fair share from any distance that this team needs.
