Mark Stoops’ Florida ties continue to pay off as the Wildcats have received a verbal commitment from 6-1, 200-pound receiver Alex Montgomery of Weston, Fla. He had made a visit to Louisville over the weekend but picked UK over the Cardinals and South Florida. The three-star prospect also had offers from Mississippi, Wake Forest, Duke, East Carolina and North Carolina State.
He visited Central Florida one week ago and Kentucky in mid-January.
He made his announcement via his Twitter account @IjustWannadoME: “I made my decision and I’m going to Kentucky #BBN WELCOME”
He finished the season with a bang as he had nine catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns — and also made an interception — in the Class 8A state title game.
He is the eighth Florida player to verbally commit to UK.

Welcome Alex Montgomery!
Larry i just read online from thein Lexington Herald Leader that Former Nebraska commit Marcus McWilson just announced via twitter that he has committed to UK.
Looks like Coach Stoops has things moving forward.
This thing getting marcus Mcwilson is ginormass. He is a solid 4* and the other kid Montgomery looks like he can be a game breaker also. If they can get A.J. Legree going full out, who ever wins that QB battle is going to put up some very large numbers…yes…..no?
JCC.. I just left a Nebraska site and they are mad as hell. They are trashing UK football. I love it. Welcome Marcus to BBN. Thanks for coming to help build this program.
I really need to start proof reading what I type
AWESOME!
We sure seem to have the right coaching staff…
and that translates into much better recruiting choices and eventual commitments.
“nine catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns — and also made an interception — in the Class 8A state title game”
Nice work Coach Stoops & staff!!!
Alex, We are glad to have you at U.K.!
We look forward to seeing you play!
Good luck!
This is great news! Welcome to the BBN, Alex!
Great news. I hope he catches alot of footballs for the Big Blue! Welcome Alex. Kudos to our coaches. Eight from the state of Florida. Very impressive.
Any news on James Hearns? Nation of Blue said he committed, if my Math is right that will give us 3 four star players. Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway looking forward to a few more big names.
David everything I have read says Hearns is a Wildcat! I think he might have some academic issues, I’m not sure. If it is true that he has committed to UK, that is just amazing. We’ve stolen him from the Gators. This guy can bring some thunder. A 6’3, 235 lb, 4* freshman LB, are you kidding me!!!
I can’t wait until signing day. Then, I wll be counting down the days until the spring game. Go Cats!
Larry Pup things are starting to look up for the Blue and White. I am praying we get Jason Hatcher from Trinity, that will be the cherry on top the cake for us.
I start my trek tomorrow to the Marshall Islands (Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Test Site) so I probably will miss out on any updates, will turn in when I get there, I am hoping you guys will have more good news for me then. Hold the fort down in the mean time.
tune in when I get there.
Yeah, Hatcher would be a real catch. God Speed my man. I have you in my prayers. Take care and post when you can.
Braylon Heard Nebraska RB to transfer. Said he wanted to be closer to home. He is from OHIO and former teammate of a current UK commit. Just seems like strange timing
JCC, seems strange indeed. Will try to check
Could he be headed to UK?
FSU writer said Montgomery was a steal for Ky. He was a monster in the Fla HS finals. Stoops is getting it done. He is competing against schools I did not think we had a chance. I now realize that it takes great coaches to get great athletes. Stoops is like a non-flashy but effective Coach Cal.
I agree – I expected recruiting to improve but I did not expect this much in 2013!
I think that I have been pretty consistent in supporting the theory that with the right coaching staff, we could be competitive in the SEC. My prime example is South Carolina. They were on basically on the same level as the Cats, then they had a home run hire with Steve Spurrier. I feel and hope that we have done the same thing with Mark Stoops. It looks good so far.
