Duke coach believed his team took amazing charges while Calipari thought it was flopping

ATLANTA — As he stopped at midcourt of the Georgia Dome, Kentucky coach John Calipari told ESPN’s Andy Katz that if players in the NBA flopped to draw charges like Duke players had that they would be fined for their antics.

So what did Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski think about those comments after his team held off Kentucky 75-68?

“He has right to say what he wants,” the Duke coach said. “I thought we took some amazing charges and could have taken more. There is a difference in a charge and flop. A flop means you are not taking any contact. I hope anybody who watches the game will say our kids did a good job.”

Then, he added, “We don’t make any money, so we can not get fined.”

Calipari pretended that he didn’t remember what he said to Katz when asked about it.

“I don’t even remember. What did I say?” Calipari said.

Finally, he smiled and said, “It was a joke. Come on, you guys at Duke can’t you take a joke. Just kidding.”

No Rat Face, a Flop means that you completely over react to any contact at all and fall to the ground to exaggerate and draw attention to the contact in order to get an undeserved call.

I wonder what would happen if opposing players stomped on them every time they flopped?

I’m guessing a lot of ejections and suspensions, since only the superior, well bred, Puke players can get away with that kind of behavior.

      1. UKFAN197TONE

A few “accidental” steps (not stomps) on the groin area will cure that…

  2. King Ghidora

It’s called “cheating” K. And I love Cal for saying so.

  3. grant

rat face. he does have that. thats funny. and no lips either.

  4. Jim

The majority of the flops were worse than those of Rob Lock of the Joe B Hall and Sutton eras.

Coach K is is just protecting his Boys…even if it was wrong(and, they did get away with it)…I know a lot of Blue dislike Coach K and Duke, But I think they have been good for College Basketball….And the State of Kentucky has beaten Duke in the two most important games and those are the Two National Championship games Louisville beat Duke and Kentucky Beat Duke….

    1. Jim Boyers

“Dislike” doesn’t even begin to cover it Larry. I despise those Puke pieces of crap with all of my being. Hatred is even too mild a word for the way I feel about them. I don’t usually like to waste time hating anyone, but Puke players and coaches are worth the effort.

      1. Larry T Clemons

I understand, I just like to beat them, In Tournament Play…And, IMO, Coach K’s Good, outweighs his bad…but, don’t hate on Me to bad…I’m Wildcat Blue…

        1. UKFAN197TONE

What is your record against “them”?

          1. Larry T Clemons

In Tournament or regular season….Ky’s leads…

And the great 1998 Comeback Cats win to go to the Final Four…..SWEET it was.

Then, he added, “We don’t make any money, so we can not get fined.”

Well, they could pay with some of the money they got from boosters prior to getting to Puke. Or at least they should have to give up some of the tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry they get fronted. Oh…wait…none of that really happened.

UK has gotten overly screwed by phantom “charge” calls for several years now. It has gotten totally out of hand. It was supposed to be a point of emphasis this season, but instead, it has gotten even worse. You can’t be very aggressive if you are getting called for a charge every time some idiot illegally slides in front of you. The NCAA has clearly made UK a target and you won’t convince me otherwise.

These kids are going to be behind the eight ball all season long, when it comes to unfair calls. The NCAA, through the refs, are going to find a way to cancel out UK’s superior athleticism. Obviously, the easiest way is to stop them from using it by calling bogus fouls, when they beat an opposing player. There isn’t really any way to prove it is going on, which makes it a safe way to go. It is a travesty. Let’s hope our players find a way around it.

Call it a wacko conspiracy theory, if you want to, but start paying attention to what is happening and you just might agree with me.

cal is just laying some ground work for future calls.

    1. Larry T Clemons

Great point, get the Sports Guys to talk about it, then it becomes to obvious…

    2. UKFAN197TONE

Yeah, calls AGAINST UK. No Ref likes to be shown up…

    3. Gene

But will it have any effect on the likes of “Phony Tony Green” or that Ayers idiot ??
I just about turned off the tube when I saw the two of them officiating the game. Only the addition of Jamie Luck could have made it any worse.
The flop calls are one thing and are bad enough but the foul called in Wiltjer where he extended his arm and the Pukie brouht his arms up, under Kyles and then went into an act that could be nominated for an academy award was, by far, the worst call I have EVER seen in college basketball. Believe it was Ayers who called that one.

      1. UKFAN197TONE

Oh, that’s the good ole Kobe Bryant move. Or, many players in the NBA use that move. Is it a coincidence that dook is one of the better teams in the country that execute these types of moves? Who coaches the NBA OLYMPIC TEAM again?

        1. Larry T Clemons

          ” The Plot Thickens “….

          1. UKFAN197TONE

            You’re welcome.

I think Cal is just telling it like it is and it has done wonders for the game already. I’ve seen a big improvement in the way things have been done but not near big enough. That game was handed to Duke on a silver platter. Before you say it isn’t true remember I have the game on DVR and I can upload clips to YouTube. Duke got away with murder in that game. UK is still second fiddle to mighty Duke in the eyes of the NCAA although the NCAA has had to break down and actually investigate both Duke and UNC and now UCLA too. Things have changed some but not nearly enough. Anyone who thinks Shabazz will get the same treatment Kanter got raise their hand. Same charge, different results. And K has made a career of teaching the flop. He’s a big reason they are supposedly going after the flop. And it isn’t just UK fans that say that. People all around the country recognize Duke as the capital of crap. Just like his mentor, K bases his whole game plan on cheating (flopping IS cheating). Wacko Knight based his game plan on the moving screen and got away with it forever. Now along comes the next great cheater, K. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Neither is the fact both got away with it.

mark my words , since the ncaa loves to manufacture and manipulate the ncaa tourney seeds to suit there agenda i.e. uk and indiana and louisville playing again , wait and see if uk does not square off with duke again in the tourney. the committee loves thick plots.

    1. King Ghidora

I’ve been thinking the same thing all day Grant. UK will clean their clocks come tourney time. The Cats are really young now and minus their PG they just weren’t ready. They will be before too long.

  10. LindaS

I posted so many cartoons and pictures last night on my FB page of puke and the coach. I was worn out by the time I finished I didn’t think I would have the energy to watch the game. Coack KLMNOP is a jerk, he is losing his neck, almost same size as his head, he looks bloated, must be that time of the month.
I think Cal is right. I love the way he takes digs at people and then doesn’t remember and gets that little smile on his face! The man gets it!

  11. grant

indeed king i agree – uk will clean them up .
