Boyle County senior linebacker Lamar Dawson will likely decided today whether to take his official visit to Florida this weekend or cancel his trip after the unexpected resignation of Florida head coach Urban Meyer Wednesday.
Meyer, 46, stepped down for the second time in less than a year. He has led Florida to two national titles but briefly resigned last December, citing health concerns.
Florida is one of seven schools on Dawson’s final list and he’s made two unofficial visits to Florida.
A Florida assistant coach was already scheduled to be at Boyle today after coaches from Oregon and Tennessee were there earlier this week.
“He’s going to wait until after the Florida coach visits and then decide whether he will fly down Friday or not,†said Boyle assistant coach John Hodge Wednesday. “Right now, he’s still not sure what he will do.â€Â
Meyer’s resignation could have a big impact in Dawson’s college choice depending on who Florida hires. Already Louisville coach Charlie Strong, a former Florida defensive coordinator, is rumored to be a potential candidate and Dawson has said several times how much he likes Strong. Louisville is also in his final seven.

Lamar I hope follows the the pipeline from Boyle County to UK. Bear said the reason he left UK was because the best player in the state went out of state —- Paul “Golden Locks” to Notre Dame. Bear said if he could not get the best he needed to move on.
Larry has been saying all year that it will come down to UK or Florida, so Meyer leaving has to help us. Hopefully, the guy Joker brings in as the new co-defensive coordinator (wink-wink) will help convince Lamar to be a Wildcat.
Barring STrong to Florida, seems Meyer’s resignation has to be a big plus for UK
Why fly when drive A short 40 miles or so.
Dawson will not make his scheduled trip to Florida this week. Whether he goes later will depend on who the new coach is
