Anthony Davis was 4-for-4 from the field and had nine points and six rebounds in 15 minutes in Team USA’s rout of Nigeria Thursday night in London.
Here is what Carmelo Anthony said about the former UK star after the game thanks to USABasketball:
“He fits in perfectly. He fits in well. The encouragement that we give him out there on the basketball court when he’s in the game, just talking to him, he’s learning as he goes along. We have guys that are constantly teaching him and giving him advice while he’s out there on the basketball court or when he’s on the bench watching, and when his number is called he’s going out there and he’s producing. So you can’t ask for anything more from Anthony Davis than what he’s giving us.”
Team USA plays next Saturday against Lithuania Saturday at 9:30 a.m. EST.

There is a lot of talk about Anthony “learning”.
I am sure that Anthony is learning – I just wish the others would “Learn” from Anthony as well.
Love that LoveSEC
I may end up liking Melo after all.
Sounds like a group of pretty fair players have taken Anthony under their wing. He is probably getting a lot more personal instruction than he would in camp competing against veterans for playing time.
Team Mascot …… Affection, Attention, Admiration and Appreciation , The 4 elements of Love…..AHHHH…can’t you just ” Feel The Love “. Proud of Team USA and very happy for AD…
Interesting to note that these established stars, with notably great egos and oftentimes matching “swagger”, appreciate a player who is humble and, in fact, basically the antithesis of what they are.
I hope Anthony doesn’t get that big ego in what most NBA players have. If he sticks as being himself as he is now the sky is there for him in NBA!!!!
I am glad they are treating AD like a beloved little brother. It is so much fun to watch him when he does get into the games! Take that Coach K and stuff it up your pipe, you said he wouldn’t play. Guess the basketball gods had other things in mind.
I hope these dudes don’t teach him any bad habits. I know he will ignore them, but they better behave themselves or I will get them with my Louavull Slugger!
I commend Coack K for recognizing Anthony’s skills and the needed ” in game experience ” he’ll need in the Medal rounds….Anthony is EARNING his Playiny Time….
It is nice to know he can recognize talent!
K ignored AD’s skills in the game I just watched. Chandler was on the bench so they let Love play center for almost the whole second half. And Lithuania took big time advantage of the lack of size inside. With just a few minutes left Lithuania led the US team. Yet the guy on the bench who can play center was left sitting there. At one point K had Kobe playing forward with 2 pg’s and 2 other forwards including Love playing center. That’s about the time the US lost the lead.
Personally I think K has almost no influence over this team. And the team recognizes the potential of AD far more than K does. When Davis gets in those guys get him the ball above the rim. That’s exactly what the US needed to do against Lithuania. They had the lane packed daring the US to shoot from outside. Late in the game the US went on a 2-18 streak from the 3 line. The one thing they desperately needed was someone who could play above those tall Lithuanian guys. No way they could have got up high enough to stop AD. Sure they could play position d to keep him from the basket but that would have changed their whole defensive strategy. They would have had to concentrate on stopping Davis. That would leave gaps in that traffic jam inside.
But K won’t play Davis. I think he is doing a terrible job of coaching this team. A coach has to have influence and I don’t think he does. Those guys are pros and they know that a college coach can’t teach them much. In fact the teaching is probably the other direction. The US needs to stop using college coaches for the Olympics. It just doesn’t work out well IMO.
100 % King and what about on defense….AD could have owned that paint, those pic and roll, short pass cuts to the rim, they would have been stopped cold. I couldn’t understand why AD was not inserted and even a zone should have been used more. Coach K seemed like he didn’t want to ruffle some Players egos, I guess. I’m at a loss. For sure I thought Anthony should have been brought in at the start or the 4th period.
I’m still trying to figure out why Chandler was on the bench. He hurt his thumb in the game before the last game but he played more after that and it didn’t appear to be that bad. But he played 4 minutes in the game and that was it. No foul trouble. Nothing. Just K and his way. Love played pretty well considering but he’s no center. Davis absolutely could have been a difference maker on that short pick and roll they ran all day. I couldn’t figure out why no one managed to stop that stuff. That’s pure NBA basketball stuff but the US team seemed to be playing in a daze expecting to jump out to an 80 point lead. Someone should have shown them the game film from the first game against Lithuania back in 2004 when they handed the US their hats.
Davis could have been the jump start the team needed. I’ve been saying all along K would not play him even if he had to go with 5 guards and he dang near did just that. He had Kobe and James and the forwards and 2 pg’s playing with Love at center. That’s 4 guys that play guard a lot (3 that always play guard) and a forward who isn’t even a big forward. Heck Cuz is a forward in the NBA. He’s huge compared to Love.
I like the way Love plays. Don’t get me wrong. But he’s no center. AD sat the bench when he could have made the difference in the game. I knew K would do just that. He knows making Davis a star will only hurt his recruiting. There’s a big conflict of interest going on here and K is just the kind of guy that will take advantage when he can. He doesn’t belong as coach of this team. He ain’t that good. Slapping the floor and the crowd shouting obscene remarks is not coaching.
With you King. playing Love so much made no sense to me either
Just for the record I know Love plays center some but not against the kind of size Lithuania has. I know he’s the same height as Davis too but his arms are about 6″ shorter.
I missed the game, will they air it again?
