You have to love the way Kentucky coach John Calipari can even poke fun at himself as he did Tuesday on Facebook Tuesday while watching high school standouts play in Augusta, S.C.

Here’s what Calipari posted: “I wore the wrong shade of blue in the gym today. UNC’s Roy Williams came over to me and noted how he loved seeing me in Carolina Blue so I immediately went back to my hotel room and changed shirts. It won’t happen again. Only Kentucky Blue for me!”

Again, Calipari showed how creative he can be. He had a little fun that the UK fan base loved and he also made sure all the top recruits knew where he was and what he was doing.

  • Lori Metcalf says:

I firmly believe that Cal does NOTHING by accident.

  • Ciprian Zisu says:

    That was NOT AN ACCIDENT.
He also did not wear a shirt with the UK logo on it whereas every other coach did. He knows he is the best around.

I posted the pic on my FB page, one person didn’t get it. I can’t believe the asst. coaches didn’t say anything. If I had been there I sure would have let him know. There is only one blue, Kentucky blue! If he ever wears red/black I will head to Lexington for an intervention. I don’t own one piece of red clothing and do not buy red flowers. Only red in my house is at Christmas with my Santa collection. If you bleed blue you don’t need any other color! Go Cats!

  • TrueBlueJohn says:

You have to love his sense of humor.

  • Martyman says:

I agree whole-heartedly with Linda…Maybe Cal felt sorry for Roy-Boy and thought that was the only way UNC would get any future recruits is if He (Cal) dressed in UNC colors>……Hmmmmm.

  • TheProfessor says:

I don’t think Calipari does anything by accident. He intended to wear what he wore, and he has a devilish side to him that I love to see when he allows it to emerge, as in this case. His recent comments about how many games Darius Miller has played while at UK, and needing to check with the ncaa for the “official” count was another recent example of this.

  • Suziecat2 says:

Well, I would love to believe that Cal wearing the “wrong blue” shirt was no accident, but we may be giving him too much credit. Sure looks like “Memphis Blue” hold over to me.

Have to love Cal’s sense of humor, and if you are going to be the coach at UK you better keep it in tact.

    GO CATS!

Amen Linda…….I tell all my UK friends down here in Owensboro that Larry has more GREAT articles on THE BIG BLUE than anyone.Keep up the great work Larry.

  • Dale Castle says:

I agree with the Professor that everything Coach Cal does is done for a specific reason: to tease us, to teach us, to chide us, and even to let the little devilish side the Professor talked about get its humor going. He gets us! I have a feeling he will be getting enormous amounts of the correct UK gear from the Big Blue Mist over this one!

  • TrueBlueJohn says:

Amen to the fact that he gets it. i don’t know of any other coach that could have come in and won over BBN at the initial press conference like he did. After it was over, my first thought was “This guy gets it.”

  • LindaS says:

Larry, after looking at the article, where the date and byline is and the “posted in uk basketball” is fartolina blue. The other two blues, the background behind the post and the where it says latest articles, Larry’s Photos etc they are an odd blue also…those are too close to fartolina blue. Get Gary on it right away to change those colors!
