WINDSOR, Ontario  Kentucky coach John Calipari liked what freshman guard Doron Lamb did Tuesday  he scored 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field with only one turnover in 31 minutes  and the way he improved on the trip.
“Today we were throwing the ball ahead and he was like it was high school, AAU. He was not ready to attack,†Calipari said. “He was holding, and the whole defense got to him.
“As he attacked, he scored layups. He has to beat his man. He has to make decisions now. You have to beat your man. He started beating him. It’s hard decision-making, but he did good. There were a couple of plays he was not playing at the pace of the game, but it’s August.â€Â
Lamb averaged 17.7 poins, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He was 19-for-36 from the field, 4-for-10 from 3-point range and 11-for-14 at the foul line. He had just five turnovers in 92 minutes of play.
Dodson update: Kentucky senior Josh Harrellson indicated after Tuesday’s game that junior Darnell Dodson might be returning to the team.
Calipari, who announced earlier this month that Dodson would not be playing this year even though he was academically eligible, had a slightly different take on Dodson, just as he did last Friday.
“Darnell may be back but he won’t be playing. I don’t even know if he will be practicing,†Calipari said.

I was impressed with Lamb, I know he did not play up to par on Sunday night, maybe he was just overwhelmed with the first college game or something, but he came out of it Monday and Tuesday, to me that says something, he did not get down on himself and worry about it, he just came back and did what he is supposed to do, and he did it well.Way to go Doron !!!
As far as Dodson goes, who knows what is happening, and unless someone else lets something slip we probably will not know,I’m ok with that, we fans as much as we love the players do not need to know every thing. They have to have some privacy.
Lamb is going to be a solid player this season. We have hit the jackpot again, with the guards that were recruited. Cal is THE MAN.
GO BIG BLUE!!!!
The Dodson thing is strange. Reminds me of what Liggins went through last year. Come to think of it, we NEVER heard what the issue was with Liggins. I’m ok with that. Let these guys have some room to grow-up.
Jan – sorry about repeating what you said.. I didn’t read it until after I had posted. Funny that I typed nearly the same thing as you.
At least with LIggins it was clear he was eventually going to play. With Dodson, who knows
With Dodson, It could revolve around team chemistry issues. I often thought when he came in, he was an outsider looking in. Wall cousins, Bledsoe and Patterson were all close to each other and I never heard about him hanging out with this teammates. Maybe this isnt the right fit for him?
Clearly, with the new recruits and Miller-Liggins, Cal isn’t desperately in need of Darnell. That young man is going to have to get himself near perfect on and off the court if he hopes to suit up with the Cats ever again. Cal handles such younsters so much better than our last two coaches did—just another facet of great coaching.
I am willing to let Cal make these decisions — and I trust him to make the best decision for the team.
Lamb looks like he could be that special kind of shooter. The kind that you are shocked when he misses. A word of caution, this was just exhibition games, and we don’t know how good the competition was. We will learn a lot more in Maui.
Jim Barr, that is ok I’m just always glad when someone agrees with me. You know what they say GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!!!
Isn’t anyone going to blame the Dodson thing on me?
Will be interesting to see how all this with Dodson plays out. I was convinced he would be on the team, now I am not sure
Linda, real good job getting Dodson kicked off. Aren’t you the one that used to fill Clydes glass too?
Dorons going to be nice. It will be good to have a consistant shooter, maybe several the way things looked. But it was against 6 ft 2 canadians. I got have dropped 18 on them. But these kids seem smart and Miller and company will help them grow up. It seems like all the returning guys are taking that role serious. And we have the best 14 year old player in all of CBB
Miller has definitely impressed me and so has Liggins. This team looks to be wall to wall loaded IMO. And Hood has grown a lot giving his game a whole new dimension. And to play with so few turnovers is just amazing considering the way they pushed the ball. Yes they were playing a team that was short compared to UK but UK’s whole front line was sidelined for the trip. Jones did play but not for long. It was just enough for him to look very impressive.
This team will have a whole new chemistry and it may be even better than the chemistry last year. For a bunch of very green freshmen and what were essentially role players last year they looked very good. Add a first class front line and you have the makings of another Final 4 run. I was very impressed how unseflish they were and how polished they looked for a team that barely knows each others names at this point. This team could easily make the Final 4 unlike last years team because they have the outside shooters to compete with anyone. With Miller, Liggins and Hood banging in treys along with all the new guys this team could be awesome. I think they look more polished than last years team when I first saw them to be honest. And that is saying a lot.
I shouldn’t have left Harrelson out of the post above. He was impressive in several ways. His defense and shot blocking and his rebounding looked very good. He still has to work on some areas of his game but he could surprise everyone before this season is over.
NashvilleCat…I didn’t have a thing to do with Dodson! Who do you think got Billy Clyde kicked out of Kentucky? It was me, I was a fly on the wall in one of his four garages. He couldn’t find his way out one night. You better send me an apology or I won’t give you any more lines for good jokes anymore. I want mine back about always wanting to be a groupie. And another thing, why do you think that ‘other’ school isn’t getting any good recruits? It’s not because of Cal, it’s because I live in Louavull and I tell them how rotten that school is and how the arena is gonna slide into the Ohio after the Eagles concert. I tell them how that coach breaks into their lockers and steals their girl friends phone numbers from their phones. The only redeeming thing you had to say was that Doron is nice and then you go and knock on the middle school kid, give him a break. There is nothing wrong with not looking your age, except when you are 40 and want to go to a bar and you get carded! I bet he scored higher on his SAT then you did! I bet he can hit more 3′s in a row then you can! I bet you wear Panama shirts like Coach Cal. Go Cats!
King, I agree with everything you said and thank you for adding Josh in there too. I thought he did very well for playing out of position. I was highly impressed with Hoods enthusiasm and energy. I thought Miller was awesome and Knight is gonna be the man this year. I just loved this basketball break in the middle of a long hot summer. I wish they would do it every year. Don’t see much basketball news from Loserville this year except in the court room. Go Cats!
I have believed since early April that Dodson would not be back this year, and I believe today that he will never be a member of the team at UK again.
Thanks Linda and thanks for getting rid of that other coach. I doubt Dodson will be back either. I don’t think they have enough scholarships available if you get my drift. They’ll probably let him attend school for free but he won’t see any more games except maybe from the stands with the rest of us regular folk. I hope the guy gets his troubles worked out and he does come back and play. I just have my doubts for various reasons.
On Dodson: Frankly I dont think he comes back on the team unless there are some season-ending injuries. Rumors I heard was that he was thinking about going to the NBA or transferring–and doesnt seem to have the attitude for UK like many of us have. He missed a dunk in a critical game and most of the time he couldnt hit 3′s when we needed them.Im ok with no DODSON.
On TEAM: Time will tell if they are better. Preliminary results looks like they will shoot better, pass better and can make 3′s which was our downfall in the tourney. I see them them making it at least to the elite 8.
The big deal is ” this aint your Daddy’s UK team anymore.” Cal now seems to attract the best players available regardless whether they have committed or not. Any player with desires on the NBA should come here. You have a former NBA coach, future NBA players, game of the week pressure from everybody in the sec–and the loud fan base which travels–just like what their future would hold in the pros. Cal doesnt have to settle for less and whether we win it all this season or not===the perfect storm is coming next year anyway with all the talent lined up so far, so get the rafters ready…UK wins it all next year..take it to the bank.
