Tywanna Patterson thanks UK fans

Tywanna Patterson is glad University of Kentucky fans seem to understand that her son did nothing wrong and does not yet have the new vehicle to drive that his parents purchased for him.
A published report today said UK junior Patrick Patterson drove a new vehicle to and from Rupp Arena Wednesday night for the Blue-White Game. Patterson’s mother verified early today they had purchased a vehicle for him, but he did not have it and rode home with them Wednesday night after going out to dinner.
“I am going to enjoy my evening and relax! Thank to all the fans for their support ,” Tywanna Patterson said.
She said her family had been offered an apology for the mistake and any “negativity” it might have caused.
“It’s just too bad that false statements get out there. I am thankful everyone knows exactly what happened now or at least I hope they do,” she said.

Yes. WE LOVE THE PATTERSON FAMILY!!! Hopefully Jerry gets fired. He is a disease on the state of Kentucky.
Larry, I respect you and your opinion. Do you think Tipton wrote the story the way he did because of poor journalism (not bothering to check his facts), or shoddy ethics (he has an agenda against UK basketball, or Calipari)? I know Coach Cal said he doesn’t bother to read Tipton, do you think Tipton acted this irresponsibly out of spite? And do you feel that there should be any follow up by the H-L to censure him for his unprofessional behavior? What would happen at your paper if a writer was found to be lying in a news report?
The Pattersons are a class family with a great kid and a wonderful student athlete in Patrick. It’s a shame that the state of Kentucky cant do anything about the lying sack of crap that people want to attach a name to “Jerry Tipton” he doesnt deserve to be named, after all…how many folks name their turds before flushing them? Not to many I am guessing.
Momma Patterson is a great lady. She even held her tongue during the Gillispie melt down. Jerry Tipton owes her a PUBLIC apology for his fabrication/lie.

Larry, I know sports writers like to embellish articles with colorful descriptions and antidotes to frame the stories they write and sometimes add interest. And I believe that is OK and it adds a homespun element. In your opinion, at what point is “a” writer deemed as having gone too far?
Thanks so much to the Pattersons who have really been the stable force around the basketball team through the BCG debacle and now into Coach Cal’s era. What a great family!
As far as Jerry Tipton goes, can I ask when Cat fans first noticed the “negativity” becoming common place in his articles? I definitely remember it there with BCG (not hard to be negative in “the dark times”), but what about with Tubby? My guess is that as newspapers become hard pressed to keep readers we are seeing “old school” journalists feeling competitive with bloggers for readers. Jerry seems to have decided that he will somehow wim back readers by becoming the Woodward and bernstein of UK basketball. And as he moves more drastically in that direction he is being forced to put the worst spin on every event and even (apparently) making things up.
My advice to Jerry Tipton to emulate Larry Vaught who has entered into the world of the “internets” and thrived by giving us the best information using his experience as a journalist to make his blog better than most of the others. Maybe Jerry should gove Larry a call to get some tips on staying relevant without sacrificing journalistic standards.

Sure the Pattersons appreciate all the kind words. It’s hard for me to really speculate on what another writer is doing or not doing. I know Jerry works very hard at his craft and puts in a lot of time. I think Tywanna thought there would be a clarification in the Herald today, but I didn’t see one in my edition. Maybe it was all online. Not sure.
But I want everyone to feel free to commet here and that includes when you disagree with me. I am just glad Tywanna took the time to share her thoughts on this so we all knew exactly what was happening.
and here i thought, the saying “it doesn’t take any effort to be negative” was true
Thank god for people like the Pattersons. How can any newspaper justify keeping a craphead like Tipton on the staff?
Tipton has an inflated ego and has added a “raw ###” ever since Tubby left. He needs to realize that you don’t win accolades or prizes for journalism by publishing lies. Responsible journalists verify their facts first and then publish. The Lexington Herald should fire Tipton and hire Vaught.

DaveK, never worry about disagreeing with me. Heck, often folks just like you will help convince me I am wrong. If not, we can still disagree and be respectful. In this case, I just try to remember how I would have wanted my son treated and let that guide me. Helps me understand where Tywanna is coming from when we talk.
For the longest time, Tipton has interposed his editorial comments in what was presented as news reports and juxtaposed questions and answers to achieve a particular (usually negative) slant. It is harder for him to do this nowadays when press conferences and interviews are available for any of us to view for ourselves.
I am not one of those who expects that members of the media must be pro-UK, or who gets upset each and everytime someone in the media prints something that might be perceived as negative towards UK. I believe that the media should hold UK accountable at times. I can even tolerate Jerry’s typically cynical slant in his stories.
However, he was caught red-handed just making up information. Obviously, he made up the information to again achieve a negative slant, but that is beside the point — he made up this information. In my opinion, that sort of conduct goes well beyond the bounds of acceptable journalism, and he should be dealt with accordingly by his superiors at the LHL.
Tipton still has not apologized, only offered a ‘clarificatio’. Mrs. Patterson, you are one classy lady and an exceptional parent.

And James, I think you are wise to understand a media person does not have to have a pro-UK slant to have good information. You are right to want UK held accountable — and Mitch Barnhart would agree. However, you are also right about expecting fairness from those in my field. We owe you that

Thanks again for giving the truth a VOICE. The Patterson’s deserve moe RESPECT than what jt and the hl showed. They sent their son here for our enjoyment and that is how they are treated.
The Voice is your nickname like it or not(lol). You are the VOICE of reason, you give the fans a VOICE and you are not afraid to VOICE your opinion. I can’t help but wonder if the H/L pays Tipton to be controversial or if he receives a stipen from Jack Ford. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does provide slanted info to Ford, they seem to have the same agenda, get UK & Coach Cal no matter what the lie is.

IIRC Tipton was at it during Tubbys rein with Kelenna Azubukie’s Dad’s legal trouble. He would write about it instead of about the team. If I’m not mistaken he’d ask Kelenna about it after a game they played.

Larry, I appreciate you and Brett Dawson of the CJ. I think your articles are typically “fair and balanced.” In your opinion, what is the appropriate approach the LHL should take with Tipton when he has been caught “embellishing” the truth so that it harms someone like the Pattersons?
Mrs Patterson has nothing to worry about when it comes to UK fans. We consider her to be the co-1st lady along with Cal’s wife. I can’t think of a classier lady than her and a wonderful role model to all mothers. You might as well spit on the American flag than talk bad about Mrs. Patterson.
As for you Larry, you are the King of the media when it comes to UK. Tipton is just sooooo negative. Even when he pretends to write an actual story about UK he does it with a few jabs. He wants so bad to be the Bob Woodward of UK sports. 20+ years of reading his junk tells me that. I wish someone would write an article comparing your writing Larry compared to Jerry’s, it couldn’t be any further from the truth
Jerry Tipton has an agenda against UK and Coach Cal. HE is the most negative person that writes about UK sports. I really hope UK pulls his media credentials for the season. Someone at the LHL needs to boot Tipton and hire a real hometown, down to earth UK fan to write. I wonder who they could get……Larry Vaught!!!!!
What really irks me, the Patterson’s did buy Patrick a car, which he does not have yet and whose right is it to decide if they can or cannot buy or give Patrick a car. If Patrick’s parents could have afforded that type of car for him, so what? It is the Patterson’s money and none of “what’s his name’s” business. I can’t even say that word now along with that ‘other’ coach and that ‘other’ school. Several players have had cars while playing for the Wildcats in every sport. If I remember correctly, Issel had a ‘442’ while he was at UK. I got back a long ways! LOL

What really made me mad was the truck was meant as a Christmas present. Can you imagine having the surprise ruined by tipton?

As far as the Patterson family goes, yes every UK fan on the planet is behind them 110% all the time, the entire family is a class act and I’m so glad Patrick came to UK in the first place and decided to come back for his Jr. year too. He’s one of the classiest kids we’ve had at UK in a long time and one of the most loved players we’ve ever had. I hope Pat has an all star season and wins Natl. Player of the Year.

I do so hope ‘what’s his name’ reads this or at least someone tells him about it. I think we should boycott the LHL…stand out front with posters, ditch ‘what’s his name’ It’s time ‘what’s his name’ moved to TN or NC. Fire ‘what’s his name’ Get a good journalist, Get Larry!
Businesses change hands so frequently that I may be way behind the curve here because I have not cared one little bit for the LHL for 25 years. But, the last time I cared enough to look the decision makers for the paper were located in a board room at Knight-Ridder. The clowns in Lexington are far down the decision ladder. Making comments to them goes unnoticed by the people who count. If that is not K-R, then someone else.
Larry, if you want to kick butt at some corporate office I will hold your coat.

The Pattersons have a very good case for libel. Someone should hit the LHL the only place they care about, in the wallet. I can certainly see why some would prefer to ignore the heel biters but if it was me I’d sue them in a heartbeat just so I could have the power of discovery. Then maybe I could find out where Jerry got his false information. If he didn’t have a source for this he would be toast because he clearly intended to harm Patterson and UK through false allegations. That’s libel through and through. I’d own that place before long and I would do the only honorable thing, burn it down.
I think they should sue too, get that ‘what’s his name’ name dragged through the courts. I think the Big Blue Nation should sue also, they owe us an apology too. I still think we should stand outside the LHL office and hold all those posters up to let them know how we feel. I bet we would have from all over the state and maybe even some from out of state. When I think of Jerry Tipton, I picture that little snitch in the movie “The Longest Yard”.
Unfortunately however, all of our outrage accomplishes nothing more than placing another feather in his dirty little hat.
Patrick, it is just impossible for me to fairly evaluate another writer. Plus, I usually don’t read the Herald to avoid being accused of just seeing something there and trying to follow it.
I can tell you Jerry probably works as hard or harder than anyone on the UK basketball beat. Of course, that’s all he has to do while everyone else I know covering UK basketball has other duties as well. As for agendas, etc., only Jerry and his bosses can answer any of those questions and since he is was one of their long-time employees, you have to assume they are more than pleased with his work
Everyone, a call to action. Jerry has previously displayed his racism. I call on everyone to contact the Hearld Leader and ask that Jerry be held accountable for his false reporting. He wants others to be held accountable for doing wrong, it is time he too is held to the same standard. I have already used the Kentucky.com website to submit comments about Jerry’s false reporting. I call on everyone else to do the same. At the very least, Jerry should APPOLOGIZE for making up stories, and possibly either face suspension, or even termination.
Let’s all hold Jerry to the same standard he wants others held to.
I have a lot of respect for the Patterson’s for the way that they handle themselves and their family business. It sorta feels that Mama Patterson is like the unofficial second mother to the Big Blue Nation in the way that she stands up for not only her son, but for the program and its standards themselves. Patrick is without a doubt one of the greatest players (and persons, in general) to ever be apart of the University of Kentucky and will absolutely go down as one of the top all time greats to wear our proud uniform. So, Thanks to the Patterson’s for all that you do for our Big Blue Nation! Your family is one that anyone would certainly be proud of!
On another note, thanks to Mr. Vaught for all of his dedication and hard work to bring all of us the news and facts that he does. In today’s world, it is very difficult to find such a great writer and one that delivers it in the manner that he does. Kudos Larry, and keep up the fine work. It is very much appreciated.

We do appreciate your comments here and being “true blue.” Buster and I do not plan on being interviewed by Jerry again as we do not trust his motives nor do we feel he has the best interest of UKY at heart when reporting.

Mrs. Wildcat wasn’t afraid to voice her feelings last year, either, privately to UK officials and it was not just because of her son. She saw what was going on with the whole team and felt for all of them.

Will all you knuckle-draggers calm down and understand that JT is a beat writer covering one of the biggest programs in all of sports and that he is right to COVER it and not be a CHEERLEADER?
Still, I just don’t see how this tiny error which you all are calling a “lie” has stirred up so much hatred. As a fan of UK, I appreciate all that JT does to bring information about the program to the public. He’s a fine writer and a fine journalist.
I am not sure who Mr. Spragens is referring to, but I am not saying nor did I ever say that Jerry Tipton is a racist, that must have come from another outlet? However; until you have walked a mile in my shoes or have had your statements and interviews from him “mis-quoted” and made to appear in a negative light as he had done in the past, I will stand firmlyin my belief as well as in my opionions. Of course, you on the other hand,have the right to disagree with me. Once again, I am stating what I feel to be true in my dealings with Jerry and it’s okay if you choose to disagree with me on this. The fact remains that my husband and I choose not to have interaction with Jerry and be it right or wrong, it is still our choice and our decision. Thank you.
