Liggins ‘anxious’ to show what he can do
By LARRY VAUGHT
When Kentucky plays its annual Blue-White Game tonight, I have to admit I am going to be pulling for DeAndre Liggins to have a big game.
I wasn’t sure he would survive the roster purge when John Calipari arrived, but then it seemed like he had really played his way into Calipari’s good graces. The new coach even noted how former coach Billy Gillispie’s offense didn’t suit Liggins and told how former coach Joe Hall had told him Liggins was the most improved player on the team when he watched practice.
But at last week’s Southeastern Conference Media Day, Calipari said Liggins was not a point guard and would play on the wing. Hopefully, that’s not a bad sign for Liggins because he went through enough hard times last year — and some were certainly brought on by his immature behavior.
“I am very anxious to show what I can do. We are going to be very good. It’s how we communicate with each other and how we are there for each other in tough times that will determine just how good we are,” he said. “The game will be when we really know how good we can be. I think we will kind of struggle at the beginning, but coach will make sure we get better every day.
“Coach Cal will start to heat up now. We just have to stick with him. We know what he is trying to do. We have to listen and do what he says.”
But apparently when it comes to tattoos, Liggins only listens to himself. How else to explain why he now has 11 tattoos.?
“I am addicted to them a little bit. I got my first one in Las Vegas my senior year. The most recent is one that says Family First,” Liggins said.
But don’t they hurt and why get 11?
“They hurt, but once you are addicted, it is like drinking coffee. You want more. It hurts, but not that bad. Maybe it does hurt, but I am addicted. I may get more. I have an idea what I want. My first one was D. Liggins and then I just kept adding them,” Liggins said.
Now he hopes to add some pleasant memories to his UK career. He’s easy to like because he’s always brutally honest. To me, his biggest fault is that he wants to do too much and wants to make a team win by himself. Hopefully this year he’ll relax more under Calipari, have fun and show UK fans why many thought he was one of the nation’s top high school players two years ago.

In a previous article (not sure who written by), but Liggins agreed that he wasn’t a PG and wasn’t sure why Bill G used him as one. He said he played it in high school because he had to but that it was not his true position. That said, I don’t think he will be upset over the position he plays….he will be happy to help the team however he can.
He played a lot of point guard tonight, but I think he is still trying to find his role
Liggins was not impressive in Blue-White or Big Blue Madness.
I think he wants to do good so badly… that he gets stressed out.
Larry, you Mac and KY are spot on. I think Liggins was trying to hard tonight. Give him time. He still has 3 years of college ball and I believe he will come around. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. GO BLUE OR STAY HOME
He did looked stressed. He just needs to relax. Maybe exhibition game will give us a better indicator about whether he can help or not
Loved The post found it to be very interesting and entertaining. Liggins is working hard to do his best but remember! He still has 3 years left to improve
Just from your name, I bet you did. Wish I had the courage to get a big tattoo like he has. I just have a very small one, but I love it. Hope to get another one this month
