What was it like to be at the Auburn game?
Editor’s Note: Deanna Frankowsi is a Kentucky native now living in Birmingham who is active in the UK Alumni Association. She will be at the brunch Thursday when John Calipari speaks to UK alumni after his time at the Southeastern Conference Media Day in Birmingham. She was at UK’s win over Auburn Saturday and shared these thoughts for other vaughtsviews.com readers to enjoy.

I was there in the cold when UK beat Auburn for the first time since 1966 and the first time since 1961 at Auburn.
I was there in the cold when UK had two players (Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke) rush for 100 yards (first time since the 1990’s.)
I was there in the cold when UK had three quarterbacks (one a true freshman) work together for a victory.
I was there in the cold when UK had NO penalties (first time in 18 years).
I was there in the cold when I was one of the many UK fans that watched the second largest crowd to see a Wildcat football victory.
I was there in the cold when Danny Trevathan and Micah Johnson each made 14 tackles.
I was there in the cold when UK’s defense nearly stole the show with its awesome performance.
I was there in the cold when Randall Cobb ran 61 yards to set up the winning touchdown as well as his working the “Wildcat” formation.
As you will note, it was COLD! Living in Alabama made this victory even sweeter. The UK fans were awesome and the Auburn fans were stunned.
My perspective on this game was that the team never gave up and that the future of our quarterbacks is brighter than ever! I was impressed with Morgan Newton’s performance in front of a crowd of 80,000 hostile fans (which became more and more quiet) as the game progressed. He showed great poise for a true freshman. Will Fidler also showed what he can do coming off the bench, never missed a step. What can I say about Randall Cobb and his great running ability and the infamous “Wildcat” lineup!
The offensive and defensive lines showed what they can do, very impressive! They tackled well, broke up plays and protected the quarterback. Auburn is known for their defense but I think our defense showed them a thing or two!
It was an awesome UK crowd and an awesome victory!! I give props to Coach Brooks and the team for their perseverance in the win over Auburn. I hope they continue to break records in their quest for a fourth bowl victory.

Luck lady. Nice observations. This is also the year the UT streak goes down!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!
HOpe you are right about UT, Jim. And Deanna is a die-hard. She goes to baseball, soccer, volleyball or whatever UK sport comes to Bama.
Larry, I forgot to mention it above, but those are great articles you currently have posted on the Combs brothers’ site about Randall and the Basketball Cats. You need to tell people about your guest posts on that site as well. I have read the several stories you posted there over the last few months, but forgot to comment on them here.

That is the site. I do write a guest column for the Combs brothers each month. Glad you like it. Ira is one of my favorites and has a keen interest in UK. Thanks for mentioning that — and reading — Jim.
Thanks Larry and Jim. I have never heard of the Combs brothers site. I will be checking it out today. Thanks again! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. GO BLUE OR GO HOME!
I now have a new edition to my UK bucket list. Thanks to this article I will be trying to go to a road football game. Hard to imagine any feeling better that the one described above. Big win in hostile environment, that feeling when the crowd quiets, the glow on the faces of the UK faithful, high fiving the players and fans just the thought gives me goose bumbs. I have never been to a road FB game and I am inspired by the Auburn win. Looks like I will be trying for a trip to Knoxville. How nice would it be to see that streak end PRICELESS. Refreshing as usual. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. GO BLUE OR GO HOME!!
Tennessee is here this year. Maybe you can try Vandy or Georgia, or just wait for that streak breaker next year at Tennessee. Or how about this thanks to Deanna’s article. Try going to a bowl game this year. Think how much fun that would be
Larry,
Bowl game it is. I See us winning 5 more games at least witch should sent us to Catlanta or A Sea of blue in the land of orange(borrowed that line from you know where). Either way I’ll be there. That would be a great Christmas present for the family a trip to a bowl game. As usual KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. GO BLUE OR STAY HOME.
My wife would agree. She is looking for that trip to Tampa
Great to get the perspective of people in the stands, Larry. UK has some great road warriors who follow this team. I know the players get real excited to have great fans cheering loudly, even thought they are outnumbered. And hat’s off to our AD Mitch Barnhart for sending the pep band to assist these great fans. Other AD’s have not always seen the need to generate fan support on the road. It is all part of building a winning football tradition at UK. Love the article!
Great point on Mitch and the band. Shows his commitment to football Mick. And you truly are a road warrior with the way you drive from Birmingham to Lexington to watch the Cats play so many times each year. Will be looking for your report here after Cal addresses the alumni in Birmingham Thursday
