Former Kentucky placekicker Bob Jones was current UK linebacker Denzil Ware’s high school principal in Florida. Jones has now moved back to Kentucky after his retirement.

Count him as one who was thrilled for multiple reasons when former UK quarterback Freddie Maggard was added to the Kentucky coaching staff as director of player development.

“Coach Stoops recognizes the importance of having a former player on staff and recognizes Freddie as someone very connected to UK football,”Jones said. “Coach has done a lot to bring former players back and make us feel welcome around the team.

“I think it’s good for current players to see us on the field during practice.  I’ve felt welcomed by players and coaches whenever I attend practice. Also, a former player who’s stayed close to the program will bring a greater commitment than a newcomer.

“Freddie is the best person he could have found.  I’m impressed that Coach recognized Freddie as the person for this job.”
