Senior guard Nick Haynes was one of the players featured on Kentucky’s football media guide this season after starting in every game last season when UK went to the TaxSlayer Bowl.
But when UK plays Northwestern Dec. 29th in the Music City Bowl, not only will Haynes not be starting — he’s no longer on the team.
Coach Mark Stoops announced Saturday that it was a “mutual decision” between him and Haynes to no longer be on the team due to a critical tweet of the UK coaching staff he posted less than 24 hours before UK lost to Louisville in its final regular season game.
Haynes had been a team captain for every game this season until the Louisville game even though he had just limited playing time the second half of the season — mainly on special teams — because of severe weight loss due to Type 1 diabetes. He went from a 300-pound lineman last year to 260 or less this season.
