Keldon Johnson did not receive a scholarship offer from Kentucky until August, but the 2018 shooting guard who is playing at Oak Hill Academy this year continues to impress more daily.

“Keldon was phenomenal (at the USA Basketball training camp),” said Rivals.com basketball writer Krysten Peek. “He can play the one, two or three. He’s very strong, very athletic.”

Peek watched Johnson play in Colorado Springs and said Texas, Kentucky and Maryland “all think they are getting him” based on conversations she had with various coaches.

Not long ago it seemed that Kentucky preferred shooting guard Quentin Grimes over Johnson.

“I think Johnson has leaped over him because of his versatility,” Peek said. “I think he’s going to make a decision soon, but all three schools really do think they are getting him.”

The 6-6, 215-pound Johnson is a physical slasher who would seem to mesh perfectly with Calipari’s playing system. He’s also improved his 3-point shooting and brings the defensive toughness that Calipari likes.
