Kentucky should get a definite boost from its bye week with the return of junior linebacker Jordan Jones against Mississippi State Oct. 21 (Kickoff will be at 4 p.m. on the SEC Network).
Jones has not played since injuring his knee in the final minutes of UK’s win over Eastern Kentucky in its second game. The Cats have gone 3-1 without Jones, last year’s leading tackler with 109 tackles and a preseason all-SEC pick.
“He was out there today. He’s no contact, but he was out there moving around. He went through individual and he went through some reps without hitting anybody,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Tuesday.
He expects Jones to be back for Mississippi State if there are no other setbacks.
Eli Brown has played well in Jones’ absence. He has 22 tackles. Jones had 13 in two games.
Stoops said cornerback Chris Westry and nose guard Naquez Pringle did not practice Tuesday after being hurt in last week’s win over Missouri. Neither did linebacker Courtney Love.
“If all things go well we should have them by the end of the week or the beginning of next week,” Stoops said.
