Calipari on Wynyard: “He has gotten better.”

Tai Wynyard

By LARRY VAUGHT

Even before Kentucky’s season ended, some fans — and media members — were speculating about who might transfer.

One man mentioned was redshirt freshman Tai Wynyard. But listening to coach John Calipari’s podcast this week, it doesn’t seem that way even though Wynyard only played in 15 games and never played more than 12 minutes any game.

“I told Tai, ‘What did you learn?’ What did you learn about this year? What did you learn about yourself?'” Calipari said on the podcast. “And we went through things on the court. We went through things off the court. We went through things that he now knows to be successful he’s going to have to do.

“I left that meeting feeling so good because Tai Wynyard’s gotten better. He didn’t have a lot of opportunities. In the Georgia game, couple other games, he didn’t have a whole lot of opportunities, but, man, has he gotten better.”

Wenyen Gabriel, Isaac Humphries and Sacha Killeya-Jones are the other scholarship players on this year’s team expected to be back next season.

  1. This appears to be one of Cal’s “i hope you can drink my kool-aid” comments.
He wants us to believe that Tai has gotten better but apparently didn’t want to showcase the improvement with increased PT. Many of us were calling for Tai during the year when Humphries wasn’t showing much.
