INDIANAPOLIS — Media notes from Kentucky and other teams in its pod at this weekend’s NCAA Tournament play in Indianapolis.

Kentucky Wildcats (29-5), No. 2 Seed

All-Time Record in NCAA Tournament Games in Indy: 5-2 (fifth tournament appearance in Indy)
All-Time Record at Bankers Life Fieldhouse: 1-0

– Kentucky enters its 57th NCAA Tournament and its seventh under coach John Calipari. The Wildcats own eight national championships, including their most recent in 2012.
– The Wildcats open tournament play this week against in-state foe Northern Kentucky in a No. 2 vs. No. 15 matchup that mirrors a similar draw in 2005. In ’05, the No. 2-seed Wildcats downed No. 15 Eastern Kentucky, 72-64, at the RCA Dome.
– Kentucky’s lone appearance at Bankers Life Fieldhouse came on Nov. 18, 2014, in Game 2 of the State Farm Champions Classic. The top-ranked Wildcats dismantled No. 5-ranked Kansas, 72-40.
– The Wildcats later closed their 2014-15 season in Indianapolis as one of three Champions Classic participants to reach the Final Four, at Lucas Oil Stadium. UK lost to Wisconsin, 71-64, in a national semifinal game.
– The Wildcats have been a part of three straight NCAA Tournament events in Indy. UK advanced to the Final Four after defeating Louisville in the 2014 Midwest Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium, and fell in a national semifinal game at LOS in 2015.
– Kentucky first reached NCAA Tournament play in Indianapolis during the 1997 Final Four when the Wildcats lost an overtime, national championship thriller to freshman-led Arizona, 84-79.
– The Cats have played in the Final Four in Indianapolis, and twice have reached the Final Four by way of Indianapolis, earning first- and second-round wins in 2005, and a pair of regional wins in 2014.

 

Northern Kentucky Norse (24-10), No. 15 Seed

All-Time Record at Bankers Life Fieldhouse: 1-0

– In its first season of NCAA Division I postseason eligibility is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Norse began their transition to Division I in 2012-13 and joined the Horizon League in 2015-16. The Norse have never played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
– The Norse have never played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. They are one of three teams to visit Indianapolis from the state of Kentucky, Indiana’s neighbor to the south.

 

Wichita State (30-4), No. 10 Seed
Wichita, Kansas | Missouri Valley Conference | Coach: Gregg Marshall
All-Time Record in NCAA Tournament Games in Indy: 0-0 (first tournament appearance in Indy)
All-Time Record at Bankers Life Fieldhouse: 0-0

– Wichita State has reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight year, and the 14th season overall. The Shockers have never appeared in NCAA Tournament action in Indianapolis, however, and have never played before at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
– The Shocker’s tournament history includes a visit to the Final Four in 2013 when they dropped a national semifinal game to Louisville, 72-68.

 

Dayton Flyers (24-7), No. 7 Seed
Dayton, Ohio | Atlantic-10 Conference | Coach: Archie Miller
All-Time Record in NCAA Tournament Games in Indy: 0-0 (first tournament appearance in Indy)
All-Time Record at Bankers Life Fieldhouse: 1-0

– Dayton has reached its 18th NCAA Tournament and its fourth consecutive berth under coach Archie Miller. The Flyers will make their first NCAA appearance in Indianapolis.
