With national signing day almost here, Kentucky added its 24th commitment to its 2017 recruiting class tonight when three-star Florida defensive end Abule Abadi-Fitzgerald announced on Twitter that he would sign with Kentucky.
He visited Kentucky and Florida over the weekend.
The 6-7, 245-pound Abadi-Fitzgerald has been a three-year basketball player who received interest for that sport. He played football only at the end of his high school career and is a major under the radar prospect
He was recruited by co-offensive coordinator Darin Hinshaw. He played for Victory Christian in Lakeland.
Kentucky is still trying to flip Alabama commit Jedrick Wills, the offensive lineman from Lexington Lafayette.
Wills’ teammate, quarterback Walker Wood, was an early UK enrollee and is still hoping coach Mark Stoops can persuade him to sign with UK Wednesday.
“I hope we get that one. I know I am working on it,” Wood said. “Whatever he does I will stick behind him. Wherever he goes or what he does I will support him. Obviously I want him here but if I was anywhere else in the country, I would want him there.”
Stoops visited Lafayette last week and lost a badminton match to Wills.
“Jed put it on coach Stoops. I have to get on him. We can’t be doing that,” Wood said.
Maybe Stoops lost on purpose for a recruiting edge.
“That might be right. Coach Stoops knows all the tricks,” Wood said.
