Bam Adebayo: “We weren’t disciplined enough.”

Here is what Kentucky freshman center Bam Adebayo had to say after Tuesday’s 82-80 loss to Tennessee where he had 21 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and foul line.

On how much of an emphasis there was in the second half to get him the ball …
“It was real big. You know, we just wanted to win but we came up short. So it didn’t really matter.”

On what went wrong tonight …
“Just discipline. We weren’t disciplined enough. We broke down a lot. We didn’t talk. We missed some shots we should have made.”

On whether the looming Kansas game had an effect tonight …
“Coach tells us to take the game game by game, so that’s no excuse about Kansas. We just slipped up, let this one get away from us.”

On what Tennessee did well …
“They’re a good team. They’re going to play how they play. They played aggressive, they played hard and it showed.”

On explaining the loss …
“Lack of discipline, breaking down on defense. We missed some shots and it was ballgame.”

On whether Calipari had a special message after last year’s team also lost at Tennessee …
“No. He talked about them losing last year, but we weren’t trying to listen and it cost us the game because we felt like we were a better team than them and came up short.”

  1. Still having a problem with the disaster in K-ville last night….not sure which is worse, the odor or the taste. The blueprint for beating the Cats is driving to the rim and either score 70% of the time or get fouled. Cal kept saying we were going to be a great defensive team this year with our height and athleticism. He left out “heart” and “want to”. This team is really soft and the 4 spot has been a disaster for most of the year. We are also not a good 3 pt. shooting team, and I blame coach for letting they launch so many bricks the first half. I cringe every time I see Fox try to launch one and all of a sudden Wenyen thinks he is a 3 pt. shooter if he makes 2 in a row. Cal was not prepared for this game and neither were his players. Some of you folks said that many coaches rave and rant but are there any out there that do it as loudly and high frequency? We may be o.k. saturday if Briscoe decides, after 3 game absence, to rejoin the team.
