Maryland offensive tackle Naasir Watkins of Olney Good Counsel High School announced on Twitter Wednesday night that he had verbally committed to Kentucky. He’s the 16th commitment for UK in the 2017 recruiting class.
He made an official visit to Kentucky last weekend. The 6-6, 300-pound lineman is a three-star recruit who had scholarship offers from Virginia, Syracuse and PIttsburgh. He’s ranked among the nation’s top 100 offensive tackles in the 2017 recruiting class by ESPN.
He is Kentucky’s second offensive lineman in the 2017 class. Belfry’s Austin Dotson was the first lineman to commit.
One other plus for Kentucky landing Watkins is that Joshua Paschal, a four-star defensive tackle who also made an official visit to UK last weekend, is his high school teammate.
Another official visit to UK last weekend was Cincinnati four-star offensive tackle Thayer Munford. However, Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader noted that he may now be a priority for Ohio State and he would likely favor the Buckeyes if he got a scholarship offer.
Roberts also reported that UK will host Central Florida commitment Sebastien Dolcine and Miami commitment Zalontae Hillery, both offensive linemen, this weekend.
