New Mexico State kicker earns Lou Groza Star of Week

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, college football’s top kicking award presented by the Orange Bowl. Each week the Palm Beach County Sports Commission recognizes three of the top kickers from FBS division teams as the “Stars of the Week.”

One of those this week is sophomore kicker Parker Davidson. His first career four field goal performance was crucial to New Mexico State’s 32-31 come-from-behind victory over New Mexico in the Rio Grande Rivalry in Las Cruces, NM last Saturday.

It was the first Aggie win over the Lobos since 2011. The Plano, TX native connected on a career-long 45 yarder and also scored from 41, 37 and 30 yards. He added two extra points for a 14-point game. After two games this season Davidson is 5-for-5 on field goals, already reaching half of his 2015 season total.

Not bad. Hope Parker’s off his game Sat at CWS. Doug Martin, a UK man, brings a hungry team in here. If the Cats drop this one, all bets are off.
