Professional boxing coming to Corbin

Vaught’s note: Kentucky fan Amy Hayes, who was once featured on the UK  hockey calendar, is part of a professional boxing card coming to Corbin this weekend. She’ll be the ring announcer for Saturday night’s bouts.

CORBIN — Retired professional boxer Nate Tubbs is on a mission to bring professional boxing back to the Bluegrass. The first step towards the mission will be complete as the Corbin Arena hosts its’ first professional boxing show in the history of the arena by teaming up with Nate Tubbs Events & Promotions on July 23, 2016. The show is being sponsored by Holiday Inn Expres- Corbin, KY, Hampton Inn- Williamsburg, KY, Firestone- Corbin, KY, Whitley County toursim- Williamsburg, KY and Bubby’s BBQ- Corbin, KY.

Nate Tubbs Events & Promotions CEO Nate Tubbs says: “We’ve got a beautiful arena down here and we’re going to utilize it”… “We are looking to do a lot of shows down here starting with this, our first of four shows beginning on July 23rd at Corbin Arena as part of our “Lives Matter, Put Down the Drugs & Pick Up the Gloves” boxing series.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to Whitley County UNITE Coalition; a non-profit charity to fight narcotics addiction in Kentucky. The organization helps get people off of drugs, into rehab and helps put lives back together. “They do a lot of good things around here and I want to be a part of that because lives matter,” Nate Tubbs said.

Special guest of the show along with former IBF Bantamweight Champion (1997-2003) “the Cincinnati Kid” Tim Austin, is Nates’ brother Tony “TNT” Tubbs, the former WBA World Heavyweight Champion in 1985 and sparring partner of the late Kentucky native Muhammad Ali, Tony says “just like the sport of boxing, battling drug addiction is a fight too.. It’s a fight that will kill you if you don’t let it go”

Former athlete and Hawaiian tropic girl regarded as the best female ring announcer in boxing Amy Hayes from Lexington, KY is hosting the show.
