Remember on NBA Draft day when Kentucky coach John Calipari seemed like he was on ESPN all day.

So does University of Kentucky deputy athletics director DeWayne Peevy and he said Caliipari actually had about “10 times as many requests” for appearances as what he granted.

“He was doing work for his foundation in the (Bristol, Conn.) area and was going to be there. ESPN approached us about doing a couple of shows,” Peevy said. “He has done that kind of thing before, but not at that time of year.”

Peevy said co-hosting the popular “Mike & Mike” show seemed to “get the haters angry” from the start.

“We probably were the only ones willing to subject ourself to all that,” Peevy said. “But once Cal was going to be on, we were going to make the most of it.”

Karl-Anthony Towns came on the show. Peevy said once Anthony Davis found out Towns was on the show with the UK coach, he decided to call the show.

“But for Cal, it was really more about the kids and pushing guys going into the draft and seeing how he enjoys former guys,” Peevy said. “BBN interacts with former players more than anything we can ever put out there. There was just so much good publicity this year.”
