One reason Devin Booker came to Kentucky was his friendship with Tyler Ulis. So it’s obvious Booker is a bit biased when it comes to Ulis.
However, there’s a lot of logic to back up what Booker, who had a brilliant rookie season with Phoenix last year, said about Ulis — the 34th pick in this year’s draft by Phoenix.
“It’s the biggest steal in the draft and that’s not just my opinion. He’s proven it already in the Summer League,” said Booker said during a camp at UK.
“I think every NBA team wants to find that steal overseas that nobody knows about. Like the (Kristaps) Porzingis thing, they don’t want to miss out on one of those. But like I said, if you can just turn on a TV and watch basketball and you’re a fan of the game, I think that should have been the right pick for a lot of teams.”
So does almost everyone expect maybe a guy like Dan Dakich after seeing Ulis average 14.5 points, 6.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game during the NBA Summer League.
“(He showed) that his size doesn’t matter,” Booker said. “That’s the biggest thing.”
Booker said he’s confident when Ulis gets a chance to play, he’ll take advantage of the opportunity just like Booker did last season.
“We get to be teammates again and he’s just proven to everybody all you have to do is watch basketball, honestly. The proof is in the pudding. He has a bright future ahead of him. I’m proud to be his teammate again and I think it’s going to be really fun in the future,” Booker said.
