Former Wildcats Moss, Liggins to take part in ‘Legendary Derby’

LEXINGTON — The “Legendary Derby,”  a baseball skills competition that will be part of the South Atlantic League All-Star game festivities, is scheduled for 4:45 – 6 p.m. Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

An All-Star player will be teamed with a celebrity for the competition.  Each pairing will represent an organization, with the winning team earning $10,000 from the Legends Charitable Fund for their organization.   Along with the baseball competition, The Legendary Derby will include a “horse” race on the field.  Each time a team earns points, their mascot-style horse can advance around the field.

A portion of the “Legendary Derby” lineup:

Jose Pujols, a Northern Division All-Star from the Lakewood Blue Claws will be teamed with Josh Anderson, a 2004 Legend from Pulaski County who went on to play in the major leagues with Houston, Atlanta, Kansas City and Detroit.

Dylan Davis, a Southern Division All-Star from the Augusta GreenJackets will be paired with former University of Kentucky basketball Wildcat Ravi Moss.

Alex Murphy, a Northern Division All-Star from the Delmarva Shorebirds will be paired  with Lexington native Shelvin Mack of the Utah Jazz.

Josh Ockimey, a Southern Division All-Star with the Greenville Drive, will be teamed with former NFL star Jason Dunn.

Tito Polo of the West Virgiina Power, will pair up with former basketball Wildcat DeAndre Liggins.

Mitchell Gunsolus of the Greenville Drive and Brendan Rodgers and Brian Mundell of the Asheville Tourists will also participate.  Their playing partners will be announced Tuesday.

The South Atlantic League All-Star game is scheduled for 7:05 Tuesday.
