This next group of young men is certainly one of the best Mr. Calipari has brought in. While this is rightfully exciting, let us remember these young men want to win just as much as we do. They’re here to learn and get better. Calipari always reminds us it will take time for the this team to be at its best. As we start our journey into the 2016-2017 season, let’s take a look at the new faces that will be wearing Kentucky blue this fall:
Edrice “Bam” Adebayo #3
Why do we love him? Bam is going to be a lot of fun to watch. Upon Bam’s commitment to Kentucky he said he will do whatever it takes. This is the type of attitude guys like Anthony Davis and Karl Towns have had. Selfless and hardworking.
What he brings to the team: Bam is going to clean up offensive rebounds with put back dunks. This guy is going to own the paint. He also has shot blocking ability.
Malik Monk #5
Why do we love him? I remember a few years ago Marquis Teague sent out a tweet saying that Malik Monk was very good. It’s pretty exciting when he has the attention of former Cats. Skal also says that Malik can be Kentucky’s best player. He scored 50 points in a game last winter showing he’s not afraid of the big stage and can score in a hurry.
What he brings to the team: Malik is crazy athletic. He won the 3 point contest at the McDonald’s All American game so he does have some range shooting in his skill set. He is also very good at finishing at the rim. He has elite scoring ability paired with crazy athleticism. I have no doubt he will have several highlight reel plays this season. He’s an explosive, shooting, dunking guard. What more could you want?
Wenyen Gabriel #32
Why do we love him? Wenyen is famously proud of choosing Kentucky over Duke. A tweet was sent out that said Wenyen was the only player to turn down Duke once they made him a priority. His reply was “And Proud of it!” He’s here and he’s proud.
What he brings to the team: Wenyen has a high running motor. He’ll be our energy guy. He feeds off rebounding. He’s the type of guy that is going to lay it all out there, just like Calipari likes. He plays very hard all the time.
Sacha Killeya Jones #1
Why do will love him? Sacha is going to be a fan favorite. He sent out the infamous L’s down picture from the McDonald’s All American game. He already hates Louisville and BBN loves it.
What he brings to the team: Sacha can definitely finish at the rim. We will see him on the receiving end of some alley-oops this season, I’m sure. He also has range. He will create many matchup problems for opponents with his 6′ 11″ body and athletic ability. He has a variety of skills from handling the ball, jumpers, hooks, and blocking shots.
De’Aaron Fox #0
Why do we love him? Fox has drawn comparisons to John Wall and well, that’s just exciting. He also has a large social media presence which makes it fun for fans to interact!
What he brings to the team: Speed. Again, many compare his speed to that of John Wall. He can get to the lane with his speed and changing directions. He knows how to score.
Brad Calipari #20
Why do we love him? Brad Calipari has grown up in the shadow of Rupp Arena since his family arrived in Lexington in 2009. For many fans the exciting part about Brad is that his commitment to Kentucky keeps Coach Calipari in Lexington for at least 4 more years. Brad works endlessly on his game. He will earn his time on the floor. What’s exciting for me is Brad’s commitment to Kentucky and his love of this place. He’s also one of the hardest working kids I’ve ever seen. He will not be satisfied playing a “walk on” role, he’s going to work and work until he has earned his time.
What he brings to the team: He’s an exceptional three-point shooter. He works tirelessly on his shot and may be the go to guy when we need a couple buckets from outside.
There’s a couple things I know about this team: they’re going to get it done on defense and they’re going to be a high flying, fast paced offense. It’s going to be fun. Enjoy this BBN!
