Don’t expect any stunning news out of Calipari press conference

John Calipari is having a press conference this afternoon.

Could he be announcing that Marcus Lee is coming back? Could it be to update the status of Isaiah Briscoe?

Maybe it is recruiting related and he knows Marques Bolden is going to sign with UK today?

Actually, I don’t think there is anything to read into the timing of today’s press conference. Here’s the statement UK released: “Due to some outstanding interview requests and because we were unable to conduct a season wrap-up media opportunity at the end of the basketball year, we will have an offseason media opportunity with Kentucky men’s basketball head coach John Calipari on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Coliseum media room.”

The season wrap-up press conference has been something Calipari has done each season while he’s been at Kentucky. He normally reflects on the season and looks ahead to the next year. Expect a lot of chatter about the incoming players and what Calipari expects from returning players.

Who knows? He might even take another shot or two at Duke. Why stop now?

I read that Calipari scheduled the press conference in response to multiple requests from the press for access. It will be interesting to see what questions emerge. The hold up with the Bolden announcement I think is tied to Lee’s decision. If Lee remains in the draft, I believe UK gets Bolden, otherwise he goes to Duke. I am somewhat surprised that Briscoe has not made a decision to return for another year yet, but he did get those try outs, so who knows about his future.
