Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow continues to work his magic and got a verbal commitment Saturday from one of UK’s main recruiting targets Saturday.
Defensive end Alex King of Mason, Ohio — the state that Marrow has made his own — is a three-star prospect but the 6-3, 225-pound King was seen as a main linebacker target for UK.
A week earlier, Kentucky got a commitment from four-star receiver Javonte Richardson. The Cats now have 11 commitments in the 2017 class and may not take over 18 signees.
And get get this. 247Sports now ranks UK with having the top recruiting class in the Southeastern Conference and No. 6 nationally. Obviously that will change before the February signing day, but tell me the last time you remember UK having a recruiting class in football ranked No. 1 in the SEC at any time of year.
King had scholarship offers from Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia. King and Richardson both visited UK a week earlier along with defensive back Tyrell Ajian, a top 100 overall player in the 2017 class. Along with King and Richardson, Ajian has been a recruiting priority.
Rivals has King as the No. 19 prospect in Ohio while Richardson is No. 2.
