Landon Young: Fans should not doubt Stoops’ program

By LARRY VAUGHT

Landon Young knows some Kentucky football fans have doubts about the team after consecutive 5-7 finishes the last two years when UK struggled to win any games the second half of the season.

Even though the Lafayette senior offensive lineman is not on campus yet or going through spring practice, he has a message for fans and hopes many will show up to support the team at Saturday’s Blue-White Game.

“You shouldn’t doubt,” Young said during an interview on WPBK-FM Thursday. “No offense to (former coach) Joker (Phillips), but we are out of the Joker era. The recruits he had, they are out.

“Now the program is just based on Mark Stoops’ recruiting classes. He has been able to form the program completely around what he wanted.”

Young says he has seen a “total difference” in the offense this spring with Eddie Gran and Darrin Hinshaw in charge.

“Coach Gran and coach Hinshaw are both known for putting points on the (score)board. I see a big difference,” Young said. “I know we are going to a bowl game.”

I like his positive attitude but a wait and see approach is best served at this point, given our brutal schedule.
