One advantage of being your own boss is that I can use this blog in a lot of different ways now.
That’s why today I want to let you know about the upcoming Lafayette Band Pride of the Bluegrass 5K Run/Walk April 30 at 8:30 a.m. at Lafayette High School track and surrounding streets.
Carole Jurgensen Howell not only listens to WLAP Sunday Morning Sport, but she’s a Danville native and I know her father, Bill Jurgensen, well and he’s an avid runner.
You can pre-register at www.runsignup.com or register that morning starting at 7. There will be official race timing by 3 Way Racing with age and group awards given after the race.
Race fee is $25 or $18 for students and children. Family (up to five people) registration is $80.
Howell says the Lexington Fire Department will have a fire truck at the event and the Kentucky Children’s Hospital will bring a pediatric ambulance for children to explore.
“I am encouraging participants to be creative and have some fun: dress silly (tutus are very popular these days); silly socks, same colored T-shirts, etc.” Howell said. “The Lafayette Color Guard may be wearing old guard outfits. There’s no telling what the Lafayette band kids will come up with!”
Dress in a tutu? Tell me that does not sound like a run made for WLAP’s Mark Buerger. Or maybe Lafayette quarterback Walker Wood, a UK commit, can add to the fun.
