Kentucky coach John Calipari made a rare in-state radio show appearance Friday on the Bob Valvano Show in Louisville. Kentucky Radio Network basketball analyst Mike Pratt was also on the show.
Calipari indicated that both Marcus Lee and Isaiah Briscoe would likely go to the NBA Draft Combine. Of course, both still have to be invited.
“Isaiah Briscoe and Marcus Lee are going to explore their options and probably go to the combine without an agent, finish academically,” Calipari said.
Not hiring an agent is the key thing for both being able to return to UK if they do go to the combine and find out their draft status is not what they want. Of course, with the recruiting class Kentucky already had — and could still add Marques Bolden — one or both could still decide to leave no matter what.
Calipari told Valvano and Pratt that next year’s team may be his best defensive team ever.
“This team coming up could be the best defensive team that I’ve coached. They could be unbelievable on the ball with length: Length behind, athleticism, shot blocking, which makes your team different. I don’t know yet. I’m excited about the team, I’m excited about what we have, but it’s too early to figure out stuff,” Calipari said.
He also said that “we may end up getting one more guy” to add to the team.
