What are the odds of the women’s coach at Washington bringing his team to Rupp Arena to play in the NCAA Tournament and his girlfriend happens to be a Kentucky fan living in Lexington?
Well, that is exactly what has happened.
Washington coach Mike Neighbors dates Amy Ratliff, who normally works for the game day operations staff at Rupp Arena. Both Amy and her twin sister, Holly, were both wearing their Washington shirts Thursday and will be again tonight when the Huskies play UK.
And yes, both Ratliffs are die-hard UK fans.
So what does Washington starter Talia Walton think of her coach dating a UK fan?
“Well, she doesn’t look like a Kentucky fan right now,” Walton said Thursday. “But it’s a lot of fun. It felt like it wasn’t even a road trip when we got to the hotel because we had little goodie bags in there and cards saying “Go Dawgs” on them. So it was a lot of fun.
“Obviously we know they’ve still got a little blue inside their heart, but it’s nice to see them supporting us this weekend. No, they’re really big fans of ours and they support us throughout the entire year. This is nothing new.”
