Kentuckian J.D. Shelburne has four shows scheduled in Nashville during the Southeastern Conference Tournament and couldn’t be happier that his Wildcats are playing as well as they are going into the tournament.

“I was down on them in January a little bit and that is when I was trying to book my SEC schedule then,” said Shelburne, a Taylorsville native and a rising country music star. “But I went ahead and booked four shows here in Nashville. I was starting to get worried about how the team was playing and that they might even end up playing Thursday and getting beat.

“But now everybody is playing great. The energy is great. I think they could go back to the Final Four the way they are playing now.”

Shelburne will play Thursday from 7:30-9 CST at Puckett’s at 500 Church Street in downtown Nashville. On Friday night he will play The Country Nashville on 110 28th Avenue North close to Vanderbilt from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday night, he will be downtown at Tequila Cowboy at 305 Broadway from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for the Kentucky Bash.

“That’s our normal place during the SEC. It’s our best night,” Shelburne said. “Last year (former UK quarterback) Patrick Towles came by and so did some of the KSR (Kentucky Sports Radio) guys.”

He’ll be back at Tequila Cowboy Sunday from 2-6 p.m. after the SEC championship game that he is counting involving Kentucky.

“Nashville is pumped for the tournament already. They were putting up SEC banners Saturday,” Shelburne said. “Kentucky fans will start getting here Wednesday. I have some friends coming who have had hotels booked for over two months. I just hope the weather is great for the fans.”

Shelburne says he enjoys seeing and meeting so many UK fans during the SEC Tournament in Nashville.

“I am loving our team right now, but I love the fans. Some come without tickets and do not even plan to go to the games. They just want to hang out and have fun,” Shelburne said. “The whole vibe is just great.  Live music, great good, great fans. I can’t wait.”
