Belfry OL Austin Dotson joins UK’s 2017 recruiting class

Belfry junior offensive lineman Austin Dotson got the scholarship offer he wanted from Kentucky Saturday during UK’s Junior Day and it did not take him long to verbally commit to the Wildcats.

He’s the first offensive lineman in UK’s 2017 recruiting class. The 6-6, 295-pound Dotson is only 16 years old. He was an all-state selection when Belfry won the state title last season and started as a sophomore when Belfry also won the state.

Dotson has two teammates — offensive linemen Cole Bentley and defensive lineman Ray Horton — who also have Division I offers and are being evaluated by Kentucky.

He’s not yet rated by recruiting services — he has not been active on the camp circuit — but coaches have raved about his athleticism and quick feet. He also has the physicality that should help him in the SEC.

And get this — he’s a pitcher on the baseball team.

  1. Great news. It all starts in the trenches.

    GO CATS !!!

  2. I’m glad he wasn’t playing when I played against the Pirates. I wouldn’t have lined up across from him though anyway. Still you just never know what might come up.

  3. A big tall tough lineman. Need more of them. Welcome addition to the UK .

  4. A 6’6 290 pitcher is unheard off. Good size. Welcome aboard. I am curious to see who else will offer later once he hits the main circuits.

    1. I could not imagine standing in the batter’s box when he pitched

      1. I cringe at the thought of spending a Friday night staring across the line of scrimmage at him. Snap after snap after snap after snap… sounds like a long painful evening.
