Kentucky may have “hidden gem” in WR Kayaune Ross

By LARRY VAUGHT

If you are looking for a sleeper in the 2016 Kentucky recruiting class, remember the name Kayaune Ross.

He’s a 6-6, 225-pound receiver out of Phoenix College by way of Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio. He played just five games in 2014 before being injured. This year he redshirted, meaning he has three years of eligiblity life.

Three former high school teammates — Kyle Meadows, Mikel Horton and George Asafo‐Adjei — are already at UK. He had offers from Louisville, Arizona State and Indiana.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops called him a “hidden gem” after he signed with UK.

“He redshirted this year for a reason because we wanted him to have three years.

He’s a monster. He’s a guy, wait till you see him out there running around. He is a pretty, pretty guy. He’s a person, if you look at him and see him in pads, depending on what type of pads we want to put him in, we may want him to play defensive end because that’s what he looks like. He looks like a cheetah out there,” Stoops said.

“Big, good-looking guy.

A great person, great worker, extremely humble. He’s out there in Phoenix right now working, finishing his school, working every day. He’s out there working with some folks out there throwing and catching. He is a great kid.

“He’s 6-foot-6, and he’s all of that. But he’s a great wide receiver. That’s what he’s going to play. We expect to get him the ball outside.

”

Ross committed to UK early and never wavered.

“He stayed committed from day one that he committed to us. We don’t talk about it, but a lot of big universities came after him. He would call us and tell us they were talking negative about us,” Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow said.

“He wouldn’t even entertain it,” Stoops said.

This sounds like a great piece of recruiting news for UK football. I can’t wait to see this boy play. He will be a big target. Now if they can just find a QB who can get the football to him.

I really like the way Ross never wavered from UK when he had a chance

That is a huge WR target for Hinshaw and Gran and add that to Conrad, Jabari Greenwood, Tavin Richardson, Dorian Baker, Blake Bone and we have a good bunch of tall recievers that can compete in the SEC.
