Is the Big 12/SEC Challenge better in late January when it is not during the college football season or better in November when it does not disrupt conference play?
Here’s what Kansas coach Bill Self said today going into Saturday’s game in Lawrence with Kentucky:
“I think it’s both. I don’t necessarily like it all. I don’t like the disruption of the league play – and I think the majority of the coaches would probably agree with that – but for our league I think it’s going to be a great exposure day,” Self said.
“Every school in both leagues is going to get a major exposure on ESPN and throughout the entire day, which I think is very good for our league, but I think every coach in our league would agree that if the time slots were available in December it would be better for us.
“But certainly this is what we agreed to do and I think the bonuses, or advantages, probably outweigh the negatives even though I know nobody really likes to step out of conference this late in the conference season, especially in a conference like ours and the SEC.”
